Hockey Night: Kingbay rules for Stillwater in OT victory

Jan. 9: Carson Kingbay's upper-corner snipe secures Ponies' win over Cloquet; Centennial holds off rallying Champlin Park; Minnesota River outlasts Redwood Valley

Stillwater 4, Cloquet/Esko/Carlton 3 (OT)

STILLWATER - Carson Kingbay's goal with 13.8 seconds left in overtime lifted Stillwater past Cloquet/Esko/Carlton 4-3 at the St. Croix Valley Recreation Center in one of eight games played statewide on an unusually busy Monday night.

Kingbay fired a high shot over the glove hand of Lumberjacks goaltender Logan Sickmann after taking a behind-the-back feed from the corner from Morgan Spetz. The goal was the third of the season for Kingbay, a sophomore forward.

Patrick Dunaiski scored for Cloquet/Esko/Carlton (7-3-0) with 42 seconds left in regulation to force the extra session. The goal was the second of the game and eighth of the season for Dunaiski.

No. 11-2A Stillwater (7-2-1) rallied from a 2-1 deficit in the third on goals from Blaine Batchelor and Ben Peterson.

Centennial 6, Champlin Park 3

CIRCLE PINES - Senior forward Peyton Blair scored four goals, including two in the closing minutes of the third period, to lead Centennial to a 6-3 win over Champlin Park in a matchup of Northwest Suburban Conference and Section 5AA foes at Centennial Sports Arena.

Drew Belleson, Evan Williams and Trevor Aberwald scored power-play goals in the opening 9:42 of the third period as No. 13-2A Champlin Park (9-3-0) rallied from a four-goal deficit to make it 4-3.

Blair scored with 4:02 remaining to make it 5-3 and added an empty net goal with 2:35 left. Blair leads the No. 17-2A Cougars (7-3-1) with 17 goals.

Minnesota River 2, Redwood Valley 1

REDWOOD FALLS - Travis Kotek's goal late in the second period held up as the game winner as Minnesota River beat Redwood Valley 2-1 at the Redwood Area Community Center.

Thomas Fischer scored with 7:54 remaining in the second period as Redwood Valley (0-10-0) tied the score at 1-1.

Senior goaltender Camden Cilek kept Redwood Valley within striking distance of its first win of the season by stopping 61 shots.

Ryan Blank made 8 saves for Minnesota River (4-5-0)

Prairie Centre 6, Park Rapids 1

LONG PRAIRIE - Senior Eli Fletcher scored four goals and added an assist as Prairie Centre cruised past Park Rapids 6-1 at Todd County Expo Arena.

The four goals give Fletcher a team-leading 16 this season and 138 for his career, 10th most in state history. Fletcher passed Rochester John Marshall's Bruce Aikens' and Little Falls Jared Festler's total of 136 goals on Monday. Next on the list: Red Wing's Johnny Pohl, who scored 145 goals from 1994-98.

Fletcher's third and fourth goals on Monday came early in the third period and gave the North Stars (4-5-0) a 4-0 lead.

Josh Hillukka scored the lone goal for Park Rapids (4-5-0).

Sartell-St. Stephen 3, River Lakes 0

RICHMOND - Noah Hacker made 16 saves and registered an assist on an empty-net goal by Baylor Stebbins as Sartell-St. Stephen beat River Lakes 3-0 at River Lakes Civic Arena in Richmond.

Caden Vos' goal 2:28 into the first period proved to be the winner for the Sabres (8-3-0). The goal was the first of the season for Vos, a sophomore forward.

Kyan Rieder also scored a third-period goal for Sartell-St. Stephen.

Carson Cronquist made 21 saves for River Lakes (2-9-1).

Faribault 4, Rochester Lourdes 2

FARIBAULT - Owen Nesburg and Brody Redding scored third-period goals to lift Faribault past Rochester Lourdes 4-2 at Faribault Ice Arena.

A.J. Ritter and Colton Rich scored in a span of 2:05 in the second period as Rochester Lourdes (6-7-0) rallied from a 2-0 deficit to forge a 2-2 tie heading into the third.

Nesburg's goal came with 4:42 remaining and Redding's goal, an empty netter, came with 1:51 left to clinch the win for the Falcons (5-6-0).

Rochester Lourdes goaltender Xander Carter-Kleven made 43 saves while Faribault's Jacob Scherf stopped 19 shots.
