Career Scoring Leaders

The objective of this all-time scoring list is to recognize and honor the many former hockey players who exhibited significant skill, talent and results while playing high school hockey in Minnesota. Listed are players who have scored 200 or more points while playing varsity high school hockey in Minnesota. Scoring totals include regular season games, holiday tournament results, sectional playoff games and state tournament games. They do not include practice games, scrimmages or any other event that is not regarded as an official scheduled game. Every attempt has been made to record the most accurate totals for each player. The following sources are used to collect the data - newspapers (Star Tribune, Pioneer Press, Duluth News-Tribune and many other newspapers from around the state), prep hockey websites, college hockey websites, team web pages, team game programs, conference records, team statistics displayed at arenas and any other historical document relating to Minnesota boys high school hockey.

This, however, is hardly a cut-and-dry process. There are always some discrepancies regarding goals, assists and total points. The rule of thumb is if there is a discrepancy and if we can’t resolve it through data collection, then we give the player the benefit-of-the-doubt and go with the higher number. Additionally, there are players who we suspect have achieved over 200 points, but we don’t have the data to support it. For example, these former players very well could have scored 200 or more points in their careers: Matt Cullen (Moorhead), Dean Talafous (Hastings), Brad Stepan (Hastings), Phil Housley (So. St. Paul) and CJ Buzzell (Minnehaha Academy).
