SARTELL - Junior forward Devin Jacobs had two goals and an assist as Sartell won its eighth straight and remained unbeaten against Class 1A competition on Friday with a 4-2 triumph over Cloquet/Esko/Carlton at the Scheels Athletic Complex.
Jacobs scored in the final minute of the first period to tie the score at 1-1 and competed the scoring with an empty-net breakaway goal with 15 seconds remaining. He leads Sartell with 26 goals.
Junior goaltender Brody Potthoff made 31 saves as No. 6-1A Sartell improved to 17-3-0. The Sabres' losses have all come against Class 2A programs - Bemidji, Moorhead and Andover.
Colten Rennquist and Jayce Laine scored for No. 10-1A Cloquet/Esko/Carlton (12-10-0).
SAUK RAPIDS - Senior forward Elijah Fitch scored with 1:10 left in overtime and Chase Wheeler made 45 saves as Sauk Rapids-Rice knocked off Chisago Lakes 3-2 at Sports Arena East.
The victory was the seventh straight for the Storm, with all of the wins coming in a two-week span starting on Jan. 15th.
Jacob Kletti scored twice in the third period to put No. 16-1A Chisago Lakes (12-6-3) ahead 2-1.
Fitch has scored a goal in each of his last five games and ranks second on the Storm (11-10-1) with 12 goals.
The teams unloaded a combined 96 shots on goal. Jacob Schaeppi made 46 saves for Chisago Lakes, which has lost two straight.
LAKEVILLE - Roan Zielie's third-period goal boosted Lakeville South into a 2-2 tie with intracity rival Lakeville North, and that score held through an eight-minute overtime period as the teams tied at Hasse Arena.
Kaden Decker had put Lakeville North (7-11-3) ahead 2-1 on his goal that came 42 seconds into the third period.
Roan Zielie scored the lone goal of the first period as No. 15-2A Lakeville South (8-10-2) took the early lead.
Lakeville North's David Iaacson was outstanding in goal, stopping 47 shots.
The teams, frequent opponents in the Section 1AA championship game over the last decade-plus, met previously this season on Dec. 18 with South winning 4-3 in overtime.
INTERNATIONAL FALLS - Zach Youso's goal with 2 minutes left in overtime lifted International Falls to a 4-3 victory over Red Lake Falls at Bronco Arena.
Colby Knott's third-period goal pulled Red Lake Falls (12-7-0) into a 3-3 tie, forcing the extra period. Nathan Altepeter made 56 saves for the Eagles.
No. 19-1A International Falls improved to 15-1-2 with the victory, joining No. 1-2A Minnetonka (17-1-2) as the only one-loss teams in the state.
EAST GRAND FORKS - Beau Christy had a hat trick and Bryce Francisco made 23 saves as Hermantown defeated East Grand Forks 5-0 at the East Grand Forks Civic Center.
After a scoreless opening period, Christy scored on a power play 38 seconds into the first for No 1-1A Hermantown. He added a goal midway through the period.
The Hawks (16-2-3) got goals in the third from Cooper Kalkbrenner, Kole Lendzyk and Christy.
Noah Schindele made 22 saves for No. 12-1A East Grand Forks, the defending state Class 1A champion.
The shutout was the second of the season for Francisco.
The Green Wave (9-11-1) played No. 2-1A Hibbing/Chisholm, No. 2-2A Moorhead and the Hawks this week and will face No. 3-1A Warroad on Monday.
HOPKINS - Cole Cheeseman scored twice in the first period for Holy Angels and the Stars never looked back in defeating Blake 6-1 in a battle of ranked teams in their respective classes at the Blake Ice Arena.
Cheeseman, a senior forward, also added an assists for the No. 13-2A Stars.
Holy Angels (13-6-0) got goals in the second period from Lincoln Ayers Assad and Oscar Buckland to take a 4-0 lead. No. 8-1A Blake got on the scoreboard with 1:02 left in the middle period when Cooper Simmons scored for the Bears (13-7-2).
Bennett MacKenzie and Chase Russ scored in the third for the Stars.
VIRGINIA - Kaden Amundson scored with 3:18 left to give Rock Ridge a 4-3 win over Grand Rapids in a back-and-forth game at the Iron Trail Motors and Event Center. Amundson's shot from the right side of the goal beat the goalie to the far side of the net.
Will Shermoen gave Grand Rapids (8-12-1) the lead with 6:15 left in the first. Rock Ridge (11-11-0) responded with goals by Tyler Forsberg and Rory Scuff to take the lead only to see Ander Rajala score shorthanded for the Thunderhawks to tie it with 1:49 remaining in the opening period.
The Wolverines retook the lead on Caz Carlson's power-play goal in the second but Grand Rapids tied the game for a third time on Dylan Clayton's power-play goal early in the third period.
PINE CITY - Bennett Bergloff scored the game's first goal and last goals and two in between as Cambridge-Isanti defeated Pine City 5-4 in overtime at the Pine City Civic Center.
Bergloff, a junior forward, opened the scoring with 1:12 left in the opening period for the Bluejackets (7-14-0). He leads Cambridge-Isanti with 26 goals and 43 points.
Pine City (11-8-1) tied the contest on Oskar Rydberg's goal to open the second period only to see Isaac Boughton scored 17 seconds later to give Cambridge-Isanti a 2-1 lead. McCall Leger then tied it at 2-2 before Bergloff scored twice in 18 seconds to make it 4-2 after two.
The Dragons' Cooper Danielson and Leger scored in the final 2:47 of regulation to force overtime, setting the stage for Bergloff's game winner, a backhand shot after he collected a pass at center ice and broke down the right side.
