DELANO - Daniel Halonen's power-play goal 28 seconds into overtime completed his hat trick and boosted Delano past Blake 5-4 at Delano Area Sports Arena on Wednesday in one of four games played statewide.
Halonen unloaded a shot from the right face-off dot that skimmed off the right goalpost and past Blake goaltender Jake Iwan. The goal was Halonen's 32nd of the season, one behind state co-leaders Anthony Yerxa of International Falls and Spencer Anderson of Thief River Falls.
Halonen, a senior forward, has six game-winning goals this season, also tied for second most in the state.
The victory likely will vault No. 5-1A Delano (15-4-1) into the No. 1 seed for the upcoming Section 2A playoffs, one of the deepest sections terms of talented teams in the state, regardless of class.
No. 8-1A Blake (13-6-2) led 2-0 late in the first on goals from senior Joe Erickson, the Bears' top scorer with 52 points (including 29 goals).
Halonen pulled Delano to within 2-1 with his first goal coming with 48 seconds left in the first. He scored late in the second to tie the score at 3-3. Blake's Connor Briand forced the overtime session with a power-play goal with 47 seconds left.

The victory was the fifth straight for Eagan, which started the season 1-4-1.
LAKEVILLE - Rosemount scored six unanswered goals through parts of the first and second periods as it cruised to a 6-3 triumph over Lakeville South at Hasse Arena.
Four of the goals during No. 8-2A Rosemount's flurry came in the second period, and two of those were back-to-back from senior forward Cade Sherman, an Augustana commit.
