Hockey Night: Hibbing/Chisholm holds off East Grand Forks

Jan. 26: This time late rally falls short for Green Wave; Warroad overpowers longtime rival Roseau; International Falls' Anthony Yerxa has six-point night

Hibbing/Chisholm 4, East Grand Forks 3

EAST GRAND FORKS - Gavin Lamphere made 29 saves and Tate Swanson had three assists as Hibbing/Chisholm held off East Grand Forks 4-3 on Monday at the East Grand Forks Civic Center.

The game, one of nine played statewide, was a rematch of a state Class 1A semifinal last season won 7-5 by East Grand Forks. The Green Wave rallied from a 5-2 deficit to earn the victory.

No. 2-1A Hibbing/Chisholm (16-2-2) led 3-1 entering the third and 4-2 midway through the final period. Nolan Meulebroeck's goal with 1:05 remaining pulled No. 12 East Grand Forks (9-9-1) to within 4-3.

Whitaker Rewertz, Jackson Strudel and Isaiah Hildenbrand scored consecutive goals in the second period to put the Blue Jackets ahead 3-1.

Meulebroeck scored twice in the third period.

Warroad 7, Roseau 0

WARROAD - Freshman defenseman Ayven Hontvet scored twice and had an assist as Warroad cruised past rival Roseau 7-0 at The Gardens Arena.

Hontvet's two goals came unanswered in the second period and put the No. 3-1A Warriors (14-5-1) ahead 6-0. He ranks fifth in the state among freshmen with 29 points.

Junior forward Gavin Andersen had a goal and five assists to boost his season point total to 44, the most among the Warriors by 14.

Roseau dropped to 6-12-2 with the loss, its second this season to the Warriors.

International Falls 13, Moose Lake 0

MOOSE LAKE - Anthony Yerxa scored four goals and added two assists as International Falls overpowered Moose Lake 13-0 at First National Bank Arena.

Yerxa leads the state with 69 points and is tied for first in goals with 33. The win was the fifth straight for the No. 19-1A Broncos (14-1-2), whose only loss this season came against Hibbing/Chisholm.

Dylan Slama stopped 60 shots for Moose Lake (1-15-0).
