St. Thomas Academy 4, Rock Ridge 1

HASTINGS - St. Thomas Academy scored three unanswered goals in the second period and got scoring from expected and unexpected sources as it defeated Rock Ridge 4-1 in a Hockey Day Minnesota outdoor game on Saturday at the Scheels Rink at United Heroes League.

No. 3-2A St. Thomas Academy got goals from Peter Murray, Brody Cashill and Maverick McKinnon in the second period as it took control.

The goal for Cashill, a senior defenseman, was the first of his career. Meanwhile, McKinnon, a freshman, is two points shy of the 100-point plateau for his career. He scored 50 points last season for Forest Lake and has 48 points this season for the Cadets.

Cole Braunshaugen added a shorthanded empty-net goal for the Cadets (14-4-2).

Colton Bialke scored on the power play for Rock Ridge (10-10-0).

Hill-Murray 3, Stillwater 2

MAPLEWOOD - Hill-Murray scored three unanswered goals and hung on to defeat Stillwater 3-2 in a matchup of potential Section 4AA playoff opponents at Aldrich Arena.

Tate Batchelor scored on the power play to give No. 11-2A Stillwater the early lead by Ryland DeMars scored with 2:53 left in the opening period to tie the game for No. 6-2A Hill-Murray, which extended its win streak to eight games.

The Pioneers (14-3-2) took the lead on John Whisler's shorthanded goal 3:13 into the second.

Landon Sampair scored an empty-net goal with 1:10 remaining. Tyson Miller scored with 22 seconds left for Stillwater (12-6-1) to complete the scoring.

Hibbing/Chisholm 4, Warroad 2

WARROAD - Hibbing/Chisholm scored the game's first two goals and did not look back as the Bluejackets defeated Warroad 4-2 at The Gardens Arena in a matchup of teams ranked in the state's top five in Class 1A.

Cole Swanson and Ben Galli scored to give No. 2 Hibbing/Chisholm a 2-0 lead midway through the first. No. 5 Warroad cut the lead to 2-1 on Conner Lund's goal with 4:31 left in the opening period.

The Bluejackets (15-2-2) extended the lead to 3-1 on Isaiah Hildenbrand's goal, but Warroad (13-5-1) scored 77 seconds later on Ryan Shaugabay's power-play goal.

Ethan Sundvall scored 1:21 into the third to complete the scoring.

Gavin Lamphere made 30 saves for Hibbing/Chisholm.

Shakopee 6, Lakeville South 3

SHAKOPEE - Tristan Wassengeso's hat trick powered Shakopee to a 6-3 win over Lakeville South in a matchup of top-20 (Class 2A) teams at the Shakopee Ice Arena.

Cooper Siegert and Matyas Kratochvil each added a goal and two assists for No. 5-2A Shakopee.

The teams were tied 3-3 after Colby Olsen scored on a power play 3:53 into the third for No. 16-2A Lakeville South. The Cougars (8-9-1) also got goals from Roan Zielie and Myles Krinkie.

Wassengeso then gave the Sabers (17-3-0) a 4-3 lead 26 seconds later. Kratochvil scored with 9:45 remaining and Siegert completed the scoring in the final seconds.

Logan Avery made 34 saves for Shakopee.

International Falls 5, Northern Lakes 3

CROSBY - International Falls scored five of the game's final six goals as it defeated Northern Lakes 5-3 at the Hallet Community Center.

Northern Lakes (10-7-1) led 2-0 after Parker Fulton's goal 3:21 into the second. William Yerxa and Brodie Baldwin scored two minutes apart later in the second to tie the game for the Broncos (13-1-2).

Anthony Yerxa, the state's fourth-leading goal scorer with 28, opened the third period with a goal to give International Falls an early 3-2 lead but Garret Furry scored midway through the period to tie the game.

Anthony Yerxa gave the Broncos a 4-3 lead with 2:22 remaining and William Yerxa,  tied for second in the state with 29 goals, later added an empty-net goal.

Hermantown 6, Mahtomedi 2

HERMANTOWN - In a matchup of two of Class A's top-ranked teams, Hermantown scored four-straight goals to pull away from Mahtomedi 6-2 at the Hermantown Ice Arena.

No. 1-1A Hermatown took leads of 1-0 and 2-1 only to see No. 3-1A Mahtomedi answer with goals to tie the game. Easton DeZelar's goal 2:27 into the second created the 2-2 tie.

The Hawks then pulled away for the win, highlighted by goals 47 seconds apart late in the second. With Hermantown (15-2-3) leading 3-2, Beau Christy gave it a 4-2 lead with 1:33 remaining before Nikolai Zhukov scored with 46 seconds left to make it 5-2.

Christy scored midway in the third to complete the scoring.

Bryce Francisco made 35 saves for Hermantown. Jackson Chesak stopped 33 shots for Mahtomedi (10-8-2).

Holy Angels 4, Providence Academy 3 OT

RICHFIELD - Cole Cheeseman scored the game's last two goals as Holy Angels rallied to defeat Providence Academy 4-3 in overtime.

Cheeseman, a senior forward, forced overtime by scoring with 7:03 left in the third. His game-winning goal came 2:56 into the extra session. Cheeseman is second on the No. 12-2A Stars with 14 goals and 25 assists.

Providence Academy (7-11-2) led 3-1 after two periods as the Lions scored twice in the second period's five final minutes.

Avi Kasargod started the comeback for Holy Angels (12-6-0) when he scored 36 seconds into the third.

George Sill recorded the win after stopping eight shots in a relief role for Holy Angels.
