CIRCLE PINES - On a night filled with blowout victories - seven teams reached double digits in goals - longtime rivals Blaine and Centennial brought some normalcy to Thursday's proceedings with a down-to-the-wire finish.
Senior defenseman Tanner Ferdig's power-play goal 5:51 into the third period held up as the game winner as Blaine beat Centennial 3-2 at Centennial Sport Arena two sweep the teams' regular-season series.
Ferdig fired a low show from the top of the circles through heavy traffic in front of screened Centennial goaltender Flynn Sanburg. The goal, Ferdig's fourth of the season, put the unranked Bengals (9-5-1) ahead 3-1.
Junior forward Kaden Johnson scored a power-play goal less than two minutes later as No. 17-2A Centennial (9-7-0) closed to within a goal.
Blaine's Grady Bautch scored the lone goal of the first period. Johnson answered for Centennial with the only goal of the second. Sam Puder put the Bengals ahead 2-1 with his goal 1:13 into the third.
Sanburg finished with 25 saves. Weslery Anderle had 24 saves for Blaine.
Blaine beat Centennial 6-2 on Dec. 6.
WASECA - Griffin Storey and Jude Gehring each scored twice as Waseca upended Section 1A rival Rochester Lourdes 5-2 at the Waseca Community Arena.
No. 19-1A Waseca (10-4-1) scored four unanswered goals through parts of the first and second periods as it rallied from an early 1-0 deficit.
Waseca's Henry Huttemier tied the scored at 1-1 in the second period. Storey scored twice and Gehring once in the second period as the Bluejays took a 4-1 lead into the third.
Owen Hoehn's power-play goal late in the third pulled No. 16-1A Rochester Lourdes (11-4-1) to within 4-2.
Josiah Schmidtke made 31 saves for Waseca. Anton Ackley had 19 saves for Rochester Lourdes.
MAPLE GROVE - Becker Wenkus' power-play goal with 7:43 left in the second period held up as the game winner as Edina defeated Maple Grove 5-4 in a meeting of Lake Conference foes at the Maple Grove Community Center.
The teams were tied 2-2 after the first as Alex White and Tucker Johnson scored for No. 3-2A Edina and Jaden Roueche and Matthew Johnson scored for No. 8-2A Maple Grove, in its first season in the Lake Conference.
The Hornets (12-5-0) scored the first three goals of the second as Brady Peterson, Johnson and Wenkus made it 5-2.
Johnson scored for the Crimson (10-4-1) with 4:27 left in the period to make it 5-3 and Roueche scored with 4:35 remaining to complete the scoring.
ST. PAUL - Soren Saumweber scored with 4:32 left in the third period as Cretin-Derham Hall defeated Stillwater 3-2 at Highland Arena
No. 11-2A Cretin-Derham Hall led after Maxx DeLisle's first-period goal but No. 10-2A Stillwater answered when Liam McGlynn scored in the second.
The Raiders (13-5-0) grabbed the lead on Marcus Matyas' goal 4:37 into the third but the Ponies (11-5-0) answered with Joe Howe's goal with 7:44 left in regulation.
The teams meet again Feb. 14 to close the regular season at the St. Croix Valley Recreation Center.
ELY - Rhett Johnson's goal 5:21 into overtime gave Ely a 3-2 win over North Shore at the Ely Ice Arena.
North Shore (3-10-1) led 1-0 after two periods after Joshua Maxwell's power-play goal.
Jayden Zemke gave the Timberwolves (5-8-0) a 2-1 lead when he scored twice in 124 seconds. The Storm's Anders Hastings forced overtime with his goal with 4:08 remaining in regulation.
MINNETONKA - Cooper Rannow and Max Aronson each scored twice as No. 1-2A Minnetonka used a three-goal third period to defeat St. Michael-Albertville 5-2 at the Pagel Activity Center.
No. 1-2A Minnetonka led 2-0 after the first following goals by Rannow and Caden Lindsay.
No 20-2A St. Michael-Albertville used goals by Braylen Maciej and Owen Volkenant to tie the score at 2-2 after two periods.
Rannow scored with 9:08 remaining to give the Skippers (14-1-1) the lead. Aronson scored 60 seconds later to make it 4-2 and then added an empty-net goal to clinch it.
Minnetonka outshot the Knights (9-7-0) 44-20.
LA CRESCENT - Winona broke out with three first-period goals and went on to defeat Mississippi River neighbor La Crescent-Hokah 4-2 at the La Crescent Community Arena.
Paxton Raymond had a goal in the first and second periods for the Winhawks (9-5-0). Winona outshot the Lancers, 39-16.
Cooper Hill and Cooper Johnston scored for La Crescent-Hokah (5-9-0)
PLYMOUTH - Colten Crook scored twice in the third period, the second coming with 2:09 left in regulation, to give Breck a 3-2 win over Providence Academy at the Plymouth Ice Arena.
Crook, a sophomore forward, now has 12 goals to go with 14 assists this season for the Mustangs (11-4-1).
Gavin Sattler had two goals for Providence Academy (6-9-2).
No. 11-1A Breck outshot the Lions, 45-19.
