HIBBING - Tate Swanson and Ben Galli scored third-period goals as Hibbing/Chisholm broke open a close game and beat International Falls 4-2 at the Hibbing Memorial Building, dealing the Broncos their first loss of the season.
State scoring leader Anthony Yerxa (51 points) pulled No. 20-1A International Falls (9-1-2) to within 2-1 late in the second period. Swanson scored 5:15 in to the third and Galli with 7:55 remaining to put the No. 2-1A Bluejackets (13-1-1) ahead 4-1.
Hibbing/Chisholm has gone unbeaten in its last nine games.
International Falls' loss leaves No. 1-1A Minnetonka (13-0-1) as the state's last unbeaten team.
CLOQUET - Jacob Iallonardo made 27 saves for his third shutout of the season and Luca Gentilini scored the lone goal as Cloquet/Esko/Carlton upended Warroad 1-0 at the Cloquet Area Recreation Center in a matchup of top 10-ranked Class 1A teams.
Gentilini, a senior, forward scored his eighth goal of the season with 47 seconds left in the second period, when No. 4-1A Warroad (11-4-0) fired 15 shots on goal.
No. 10-1A Cloquet/Esko/Carlton (9-7-0) has won four of its last five, allowing just five goals in that span. Iallonardo ranks sixth in the state with a .930 save percentage. Warroad junior Finn Hanson ranks fifth in both goals-against average (1.64) and save percentage (.935).
BEMIDJI - Chase Fairchild and Eli Kringen scored third-period goals as Bemidji rallied to beat East Grand Forks 3-2 at the Sanford Center and sweep the teams' regular-season series.
Tucker Lovejoy scored the only goal of the second period, putting No. 12-1A East Grand Forks (6-8-1) ahead 2-1 entering the third.
Fairchild scored 2:18 into the period and Kringen with 8:51 remaining as Bemidji (7-5-1) pulled into the lead.
Bemidji senior goaltender Christian Hill, who ranks second in the state in save percentage (.946) and third in goals-against average (1.48) made 29 saves. East Grand Forks goaltender Noah Schindele made 29 saves.
AUSTIN - Casey Ulve scored three goals in the first two periods as Albert Lea cruised to a 5-2 victory over southern Minnesota neighbor and rival Austin at Riverside Arena.
Ulve entered the night ranked third in the state among sophomores in scoring with 29 points, behind only Hibbing/Chisholm's Cole Swanson and Bagley/Fosston's James Palmer.
