HERMANTOWN - Six of the greatest days in the history of the Proctor's program ended in wildly unexpected fashion, as the Rails stunned previously unbeaten Hermantown 4-3 on Tuesday at the St. Luke's Sports and Event Center, halting a decades-long winless streak against the No. 1-ranked (Class 1A) Hawks that had stretched to 40 games.
Drew Yost one-timed a pass from fellow freshman Jax Hardy with 4.4 second left for the winning goal, then was tackled by his teammates and buried under a mass of celebrating bodies.
Proctor last beat Hermantown on Jan. 5, 1999. The Rails 40-game winless streak to their Duluth-area neighbors includes 15 shutout losses.
Proctor (8-6-1) opened the scoring and never trailed. Hermantown (11-1-2) answered each time the Rails scored until Yost's goal on a shot that sailed just to the right of Hawks standout goaltender Bryce Francisco.
Breckin Ross and Hardy also scored for Proctor. Hardy finished with two assists for a three-point night. He leads the Rails with 24 points and is fourth statewide in scoring among freshmen.
Proctor went 3-0 to win its holiday tournament, beating Rochester Lourdes 3-2 in the championship game on Dec. 3. The Rails traveled to the top of the state and tied unbeaten International Falls 1-1 in overtime on Jan. 3.
Mick Martalock, Paxon Madill and Beau Christy scored for Hermantown, which outshot Proctor 37-19. Proctor goaltender William Pocrnich made 34 saves.
STILLWATER - Cade Sherman's goal 4:28 into overtime lifted Rosemount past Stillwater, completing a stunning late-game rally at the St. Croix Valley Recreation Center in a matchup of top-10 Class 2A teams.
No. 9-2A Stillwater (10-4-0) led 4-1 heading into the third period, building its lead on the strength of three Teague McGlynn goals and one from Joe Howe.
Sherman, a senior committed to Augustana, ignited the comeback, scoring with 6:52 remaining to pull No. 10-2A Rosemount (11-3-1) to within 4-2. Jack Lonke and Gavin McNeill scored the next two goals for the Irish, with McNeil's coming with 1:10 remaining in regulation.
Rosemount goaltender Sam Clements came into the game in relief of starter Drew Sherman and did not allow a goal on 15 shots.
STILLWATER - Mahtomedi scored three goals in the second period as it surged past Northfield 3-2 at the St. Croix Valley Recreation center in a matchup of top-10 Class 1A teams.
No. 7-1A Northfield (9-2-0) led 1-0 after the first period on Walker Sorem's goal.
Vinny Redpath, Tommy Boe and Henry Sampair scored in the second period for No. 6-1A Mahtomedi (6-6-2), with Sampair's goal coming with 7 seconds left.
Both teams reached the state Class 1A tournament last season, and they met in the consolation semifinals. Northfield won 4-2 en route to the consolation title.

ROSEAU - Warroad scored three times in the second period as it defeated Roseau 4-1 at the Roseau Memorial Arena in one of the state's most longstanding rivalries.
The No. 4-1A Warriors (11-3-0) built a 3-0 lead on goals by Ayven Hontvet, Wyatt Samuelson and Rodrick Jackson in the second.
Anton Klint scored 79 seconds into the third for Roseau (6-8-1) but Conner Lund scored midway through the period to give Warroad the 4-1 lead.
Warroad outshot the Rams 37-15. Brendan Simmons made 33 saves for Roseau. Finn Hanson stopped 14 shots for the Warriors.
FOREST LAKE - Cam Autrey's hat trick powered Cretin-Derham Hall to a 4-1 win over Forest Lake in a meeting of ranked teams at the Forest Lake Sports Center.
Autrey, a senior forward, now has five goals this season for No. 11-2A Cretin-Derham Hall. Autrey scored twice in the first for the Raiders (9-5-0), who also got a goal that period from Alexander Bloedow.
Autrey scored 90 seconds into the second to make it 4-0.
Nate Peterson scored in the second No. 20-2A Forest Lake. The Rangers (9-4-0) opened the season with five straight wins.

LONG LAKE - Nicklas Nelson, a junior defenseman committed to the University of Connecticut, scored twice to lead Monticello to a 4-1 win over Orono at the Orono Ice Arena.
Nelson gave No. 8-1A Monticello a 1-0 lead in the first. The Moose (9-2-2) pushed the lead to 2-0 on Clyde Middleton's goal with 2:10 remaining in the second. Jackson Knight got No. 13-1A Orono within one by scoring with 36 seconds left in the period.
Nelson's second goal came with 6:38 to play before Ashton Stoll scored an empty-net goal to complete the scoring. Stoll had a pair of assists on the night.
Max Lewin made 38 saves for Orono (3-7-3).
CHASKA - Paxton Lee, Logan Smith and Nolan Warner each had a pair of goals as No. 14-2A Chanhassen defeated west metro neighbor and fierce rival Chaska 7-2 at the Chaska Community Center.
Smith and Warner scored in the first period to give the Storm (7-4-1) a 2-1 lead.
The teams traded goals before Lee, Warner, Smith and Lee again scored in an eight-minute stretch as Chanhassen pulled away.
Wyatt Connors and Hayden Nelson scored for Chaska (2-8-1). Frank Petz made 43 saves for the Hawks.
VIRGINIA - Duluth Marshall scored the game's first five goals, included two shorthanded, as the Hilltoppers defeated Rock Ridge 6-4 at the Iron Trail Motors and Event Center. The win was the fourth straight for the 12-1-1 Hilltoppers.
No. 19-2A Duluth Marshall led 5-0 after Benson Peterson's shorthanded goal midway through the second.
Rock Ridge (6-8-0) answered with three goals, the last coming with 4:22 left in the third, to make it 5-3.
Braydon Hannula scored his second goal of the night into an empty net to give the Hilltoppers a 6-3 lead with 1:14 to play. Colton Blalke scored with 15 seconds to play to complete the scoring for the Wolverines.
BLOOMINGTON - Cooper Avelar scored 3:33 into overtime as Holy Family edged Bloomington Jefferson 2-1 at the Bloomington Ice Gardens.
Holy Family (6-8-0) and the Jaguars (11-2-1) traded goals in the second. Henryk Krzmarick scored for the Fire while Chayton Lueck scored for Bloomington Jefferson.
Daniel Linn made 36 saves for Holy Family.
The loss was the second for Bloomington Jefferson, which went 11-0-1 in its first 12 games.
NEW ULM - Griffin Storey scored twice as Waseca reeled off four-straight goals over two periods to defeat New Ulm 6-4 at the New Ulm Civic Center.
New Ulm (5-6-0) led 2-1 after the first following goals by Jaxon Saenz and Carsten Haala.
No. 19-1A Waseca (7-4-1) broke out for three goals in the second, the last two by Storey for a 4-2 lead.
The Bluejays took a 5-2 lead on Cash Lynch's goal 1:53 into the third. Storey, a junior forward, leads Waseca with 17 goals.
