ST. LOUIS PARK - Brayden Klande opened and closed the scoring to lead Sartell past Blake 3-1 in a first-round matchup of the Holiday Classic in the Park at the St. Louis Park Rec Center.
Caleb Thompson also scored for No. 5-1A Sartell (8-2-0), and his goal 5:20 into the third period proved to be the winner.
Cooper Simmons pulled No. 7-1A Blake (8-3-1) into a 1-1 tie midway through the third.
Klande, a senior, shares the Sabres' team lead with 11 goals. He scored 3:52 into the first and again with 1:37 left in the third.
Sartell's only losses this season have come against Class 2A teams (Bemidji and Moorhead). The Sabres, after years of being classified as a Class 2A program, are playing in the Class 1A playoffs this season.
MAPLE GROVE - Ryan Colleran's goal with 2:02 to play in the second period held up as the game winner as Chanhassen defeated Holy Family 3-2 in the Holiday Classic in the Grove's first round at the Maple Grove Community Center.
Payne Serie scored in the first and Oswald Ware scored in the second for Chanhassen (4-4-1) as the No. 14-2A Storm led 2-0 before Holy Family's Ryder Sorensen scored on the power play with 2:35 remaining in the second.
Colleran scored 33 seconds later to push the lead back to two, 3-1.
Sorensen scored midway through the third for Holy Family (4-7-0).
ST. LOUIS PARK - Benilde-St. Margaret's used three third-period goals to rally for a 4-2 win over Andover in the first round of action in the Holiday Classic in the Park at the St. Louis Park Rec Center.
The Red Knights (3-4-1) and Andover were tied 1-1 after the first. Jack Rykkeli gave the Huskies (3-7-2) a 2-1 lead after two periods with a power-play goal.
Benilde-St. Margaret's tied the contest 18 seconds into the third on Keegan Davis' goal. Donovan Madsen gave the Red Knights a 3-2 lead with 14:38 remaining. Tyler Kirschner completed the scored with 3:14 left.
Nick Johnson added two assists for Benilde-St. Margaret's.
INTERNATIONAL FALLS - William Yerxa had a hat trick in the second period as unbeaten International Falls topped Willmar 7-1 in the first round of the Winternational Falls Holiday Classic at Bronco Arena.
William Yerxa, a senior forward, has 18 goals and 21 assists this season for the Broncos (7-0-1). Anthony Yerxa had four assists against Willmar to give him 21 assists on the season to go with a team-high 20 goals. They Yerxa brothers rank No. 1 and 2 in the state in points (Anthony has 41, William has 39).
Blake Grimsley scored in the first for Willmar (6-2-0).
Caleb Joslyn made 23 saves for the Broncos.
WARROAD - Caden Ulmer scored the final three goals as Grand Forks Red River (N.D.) rallied to defeat Warroad 4-2 in the first round of the Hockeytown Holiday Classic at The Gardens Arena.
The teams were tied 1-1 after two periods before No. 4-1A Warroad took a 2-1 lead on Gavin Andersen's second goal of the game 3:16 into the third.
Ulmer scored first with 8:02 remaining and then with 6:19 to play and again with 16 seconds left in regulation. The Roughridgers were the preseason No. 2 pick in North Dakota in its coaches poll.
Finn Hanson made 31 saves for Warroad (8-3-0).
ST. CLOUD - Jordy Sewell scored twice in the second period and assists on two other goals as Cloquet/Esko/Carlton removed Luverne from the unbeaten ranks with a 6-2 victory in the first round of the Granite City Showcase at the Municipal Athletic Complex.
The No. 10-1A Lumberjacks (6-6-0) and No. 16-1A Luverne were tied 1-1 after the first. Sewell's first goal came on the power play 3:29 into the second. His second goal gave Cloquet/Esko/Carlton a 3-1 midway through.
Kaden Willis and Conor Sullivan scored early in the third for the Lumberjacks. Luca Gentilini completed the scoring for Cloquet/Esko/Carlton.
Blake Sauer and Maddux Domagala scored for Luverne (11-1-0).
SOUTH ST. PAUL - Jonas Schauer scored 18 seconds into overtime to cap a three-goal run by Hastings as the Raiders rallied for a 4-3 win over Woodbury in a South St. Paul Premier semifinal at Doug Woog Arena.
The teams were tied 1-1 after two periods. Woodbury (3-7-1) took a 3-1 lead following goals by Matthew Gross and Owen Fownes in the first 3:30 of the third.
Luke Niederkorn and Rylan Krauth scored 15 seconds apart for the Raiders (6-5-0) to tie the contest and force overtime.
SOUTH ST. PAUL - Unbeaten Farmington scored the first three goals and never looked back in recording a 6-3 win over St. Louis Park in a South St. Paul Premier semifinal at Doug Woog Arena.
Tegan Gylling, Joe Hambrecht and Justin Harrison scored in the first for the Tigers (10-0-1).
St. Louis Park (5-6-0) opened the second period with a power-play goal by Marty Hirte only to see Farmington answer with a goal by AJ Vinar. The Orioles' Grant Haggerty made it 4-2 midway through the second.
Drake Anderson pushed Farmington's lead back to three, 5-2, by scoring early in the third. St. Louis Park's Nicky Moran and Farmington's Will Harris traded goals to complete the scoring.
Farmington's Chris Bade made 39 saves for the win.
