RED LAKE FALLS - Senior forward Riley Broden scored 1:13 into overtime as Red Lake Falls beat Northwest Conference rival Bagley/Fosston 4-3 on Thursday at Cardin-Hunt Arena.
Broden grabbed a loose puck at the top of the left face-off circle and spun and fired a low shot into the right corner of the goal. He then launched himself into a headfirst dive to the ice as he raced to the Eagles' student section in celebration.
Bagley/Fosston's Logan Dillich tied the score at 3-3 with 39 seconds remaining. Each member of Bagley/Fosston's (5-2-0) superb first line of James Palmer, Wyatt Gerbracht and Dillich each scored a goal. Palmer leads the state in scoring with 27 points and Gerbracht and Dillich are tied for second with 25.
Colby Knott, Kegan Schmitz and Xavier Payment also scored for Red Lake Falls (5-1-0).
PLYMOUTH - Holton Davison's goal with 56 second left boosted Wayzata into a 2-2 tie with Section 6AA rival Benilde-St. Margaret's at the Plymouth Ice Center.
No. 11-2A Benilde-St. Margaret's (2-1-1) took a 1-0 lead late in the first period on Johnny Raymond's goal. Keegan Davis put the Red Knights ahead 2-0 early in the second period.
McCoy Curtz started the comeback for (No. 15-2A Wayzata) by scoring with 1:13 left in the second period to cut the Red Knights' lead to 2-1.
Wayzata fired 56 shots on Benilde-St. Margaret's goaltender Alex Beaton. The Trojans' Ryan Pellinger made 26 stops.
HERMANTOWN - Eight players scored a goal for Hermantown, and the Hawks, the top-ranked team in Class 1A, scored four goals in the final period to rally past Centennial 8-6 at the Hermantown Ice Arena.
Alexander Nicklin scored 3:08 into the third period for Hermantown (4-0-2) to give Hermantown a 6-5 lead. Kyler Berg's goal 6:47 into the third put the Hawks ahead 7-6 and proved to be the game winner.
Joe Hemir and Nick Carls each scored twice for Centennial (3-5-0).
FOREST LAKE - Tyson Miller had a hat trick and Gavin Bajda picked up a shutout as Stillwater snapped Forest Lake's season-opening five-game win streak with a 6-0 victory at the Forest Lake Sports Center.
Miller, a junior forward, scored twice in the first period for No. 7-2A Stillwater. Miller now has seven goals for the Ponies (6-1-0) while Bajda, a senior, now has two shutouts this season. Tate Batchelor was credited with three assists.
Stillwater outshot Forest Lake (5-1-0), 26-17.
PRINCETON - Elliott Grafnitz made 30 saves as Becker/Big Lake recorded a 4-0 win over Princeton at the First Bank and Trust Ice Arena.
Tate Spilled and Wyatt Bodle scored in the first period as the Eagles took the lead and never looked back. Raymond Clark and Ethan Grafnitz also scored for Becker/Big Lake (4-2-0).
Zachary Ennis made 35 saves for Princeton (0-5-1).
HOPKINS - Peter Murray recorded two goals as St. Thomas Academy defeated Blake 6-1 in a matchup of ranked teams at Blake Ice Arena.
Murray scored the game's first goal 63 seconds into the contest for No. 4-2A St. Thomas Academy. The Cadets (6-1-0) made it 2-0 when Will Mikan scored with 10:01 left in the first.
Joe Erickson scored a second-period power-play goal for No. 8-1A Blake (6-2-0).
Luca Pedri scored in the second period before the Cadets pulled away behind third-period goals from Sam Pacovsky, Maverick McKinnon and Murray.
ROCHESTER - Joseph Villarama scored twice in the first period and Rochester Mayo never looked back in recording a crosstown 5-2 win over Rochester Century/John Marshall at Graham Arena.
Mayo (3-3-0) also got two goals from Gavin Clark.
Dominic Palazzari and Bennett Timpane scored for Rochester Century/John Marshall (3-4-0).
MAPLEWOOD - Jaxon Cook scored the tying and winning goals at Gentry Academy recorded a 3-2 come-from-behind win over Chisago Lakes at Aldrich Arena.
Cook, a sophomore forward, now has 11 goals in eight games for the Stars (5-3-0).
Carson Purday gave No. 15-1A Chisago Lakes (3-2-2) midway through the first. Gentry's Collin Hennes tied the game with 10:18 left in the second only to see Chisago Lakes take a 2-1 lead with 5:36 remaining in the period.
Cook scored with 1:12 left in the second to tie the game again.
Hennes was also credited with two assists. Gavin Grose made 37 saves for the Stars.
WADENA - Finn Henry scored 21 seconds into overtime to give Park Rapids a 2-1 win over Wadena-Deer Creek at the Wadena Ice Arena.
The Panthers (1-5-0) opened the scoring when Bryce Zubke scored midway through the first.
Wadena-Deer Creek (1-5-0) answered with Cole Sundby's goal with 2:59 remaining in the first.
Rylie Wesa made 20 saves for the win while Grayson Meyer stopped 26 shots for the Wolverines.
