DULUTH - Lincoln Ayers Assad scored a power-play goal with 1:37 left in overtime on Friday as Holy Angels escaped the Essential Duluth Heritage Center with a 3-2 victory over Duluth East.
Ayers Assad took a no-look, behind-the-back pass from Avi Kasargod, then spun and fired from near the right face-off dot for the winning goal. He leads the No. 8-2A Stars (3-1-0) with four goals.
Zane Medlin scored in the first period and Liam Brooks midway through the second as Duluth East (0-3-1) erased an early 1-0 deficit to take a 2-1 lead.
Holy Angels' Madden Brown scored the only goal of the third period to force the extra session.

ROSEAU - Nate Garski's power-play goal with 1:39 left completed a 4-3 come-from-behind victory for Grand Rapids against longtime northern Minnesota rival Roseau at the Roseau Memorial Arena.
Garski, stationed at the right face-off dot, one-timed a feed from Dylan Clayton past Roseau goaltender Brendan Simmons.
Roseau (1-4-0) held leads of 2-0 and 3-1 before No. 19-2A Grand Rapids (2-1-1) began its rally on an Ander Rajala goal midway through the second period, cutting the Rams' lead to 3-2.
Will Haarklau scored 4:48 into the final period to tie it at 3-3, setting up Garski's goal, his first of the season. He scored 14 goals last season, second most on the Thunderhawks.
WARROAD - Warroad scored three goals in the third period, all on special teams, as it rallied past Rock Ridge 3-1 at The Gardens Arena.
Broden Hontvet and Rodrick Jackson scored power-play goals for the No. 4-1A Warriors (4-2-0) as they erased a 1-0 deficit. Gavin Andersen's shorthanded goal into an empty net clinched the victory. The goal was Andersen's team-leading seventh of the season.
Can Carlson's goal early in the first period kept No. 20-2A Rock Ridge (2-4-0) ahead 1-0 until Hontvet's goal 45 seconds into the third.
STILLWATER - Ford Skytta and Beau Christy each had two goals and an assist as Hermantown defeated Mahtomedi 7-2 in a showdown of top-seven teams in Class 1A at the St. Croix Valley Recreation Center.
The No. 2-1A Hawks (3-0-1) scored three goals in both the second and third periods.
Vinny Redpath and Devin O'Donnell scored goals for No. 7-1A Mahtomedi (1-2-1) while Brayden Fuerst recorded two assists.
The teams combined for 17 penalties.
DETROIT LAKES - Hudson Pettit scored twice as Detroit Lakes defeated Thief River Falls 3-1 at the Freeman Sports Arena.
Pettit, a senior defenseman, has scored three goals in his last two games. Easton Kennedy also recorded a goal and two assists for Detroit Lakes (2-2-0).
Griffin Lindberg stopped 33 shots but lost his shutout bid when Tucker Knott scored in the final seconds for Thief River Falls (0-4-0).
CROOKSTON - Hopkins scored three times in the third period, the last coming with nine seconds left in regulation, as the Royals tied Crookston 3-3 at the Crookston Sports Center.
Garrett Fischer and Greyson Ecker scored in the second period to give Crookston (3-0-1) a 2-0 lead.
Kirill Udaltsov scored 1:33 into the third to start the Royals' comeback. Fischer scored three minutes later to push the lead to 3-1 but Williams Hoist scored midway through the period to bring Hopkins (1-2-1) back within one, 3-2.
William Moseley scored with nine seconds left to force overtime.
RICHMOND - Willmar scored the game's final three goals as the Cardinals rallied for a 4-3 overtime win over River Lakes at the River Lakes Civic Arena.
Willmar (1-1-0) ... trailed 3-1 early in the third period after Lucas Bayer scored on the power play for River Lakes (0-3-0). Bayer had two goals on the night.
Blake Grimsley, who finished with a hat trick, and Gibson Horyza scored on the power play for Willmar, Horyza's goal coming with 3:39 left in regulation.
Grimsley's game-winning goal came 1:42 into overtime.
ELY - Bagley/Fosston scored three power-play goals in the third period to pull away to a 6-2 win over Ely at the Ely Ice Arena.
The Flyers (5-0-0) led 3-1 after two periods thanks to two goals by freshman forward Isaac Decoteau and a goal by Wyatt Gerbracht.
Wyatt Gerbracht, Reid Gerbracht and James Palmer scored in the third for Bagley/Fosston. Wyatt Gerbracht ranks second in the state with 10 goals and Palmer is the state's points leader with 23, tied with St. Thomas Academy's Cole Braunshausen.
Owen Marolt had both goals for the Timberwolves (1-2-0).
