STILLWATER - Hill-Murray's Grayson Hanggi and Mahtomedi's Jackson Chesak each made 27 saves Wednesday as the Metro East conference rivals skated to a 1-1 overtime tie at the St. Croix Valley Recreation Center.
Landon Sampair scored a first-period goal for No. 2-2A Hill-Murray (1-0-2). Devin O'Donnell answered with a goal in the second period for No. 7-1A Mahtomedi (1-1-1).
Mahtomedi outshot Hill-Murray 3-0 in the overtime period.
NORTHFIELD - Philip Benjamin's goal with 7:54 left in the third period held up as the game winner as Northfield outlasted Mahtomedi at Northfield Ice Arena in a battle of Class 1A powers.
Jackson Knight scored twice in the second period as No. 11-1A Orono (0-2-1) took a 2-1 lead.
No. 10-1A Northfield (3-0-0) scored three of the next four goals, including Oliver Benjamin's late in the second period to tie it at 2-2.
Michael Steward scored twice for Northfield. He leads the Raiders with four goals.
Max Lewin made 39 saves for Orono. Gavin Winter had 26 stops for Northfield.
