ST. PAUL - Junior forward Beau Christy scored twice and Bryce Francisco made 25 saves to help propel perennial Class 1A power Hermantown, playing in its season opener, past Cretin-Derham Hall 6-3 on Friday at Highland Arena.
Christy put the No. 3-1A Hawks ahead 3-1 midway through the second period and 5-2 early in the third. He added a first period assist.
Four other players scored for Hermantown, which had nine players register at least a point, including goaltender Bryce Francisco's assist on Ford Skytta's season-opening goal.
No. 12-2A Cretin-Derham Hall (1-2-0) pulled to within 3-2 on Cam Autrey's goal with 5:33 left in the second. Hermantown scored the next three goals, including two in a span of 20 seconds in the third period from Christy and Noah Thurston.
Raiders goaltender Luca Sciara made 29 saves.
WARROAD - Moorhead, the consensus top-ranked team in Class 2A, remained unbeaten with a 5-3 victory over Warroad at The Gardens Arena.
Sophomore Joey Cullen scored twice and added two assists for the defending state champion Spuds (3-0-0), who have scored at least five goals in each of their games and have outscored their opponents by a combined 18-3.
Ryan Shaugabay put No. 2-1 Warroad (1-2-0) ahead 1-0 just 3 minutes into the first period, but Moorhead surged into the lead by scoring the next three goals.
Wyatt Samuelson pulled Warroad to within 3-2 late in the second period and Shaugabay scored midway through the third period as the Warriors closed to within 4-3.
Moorhead's Evan Wanner scored with 3:31 left for the final margin.
Moorhead goaltender Will Arnold made 21 saves while Warroad's Finn Hanson had 34 stops.
BLOOMINGTON - Holy Angels scored the final four goals, including two from senior Cole Cheeseman, as it cruised past Holy Family 5-2 at the Bloomington Ice Garden.
The teams traded four first-period goals, with Donovan Klin and Joey Weyandt scoring for No. 18-2A Holy Family (1-1-0) and Camden Hester and Teddy Lechner scoring for No. 6-2A Holy Angels (1-1-0).
Cheeseman, who has scored 20-plus goals each of the previous two season, put the Stars ahead 3-2 midway through the second period and 5-2 early in the third.
George Sill made 10 saves for Holy Angels; Danny Linn had 29 stops for Holy Family.
MINNETONKA - Caden Lindsay's goal with 2:04 left in the first period held up as the game winner as Minnetonka defeated Rogers 3-0 in a matchup of ranked teams in the first round of the Tonka Thanksgiving Preview at the Pagel Activity Center.
Max Aronson and Jordan Johnson also scored for No. 3-2A Minnetonka (2-0-1). Chase Jerdee made 23 saves for the shutout.
Tyler Bacon stopped 33 shots No. 8-2A Rogers (1-3-0), which has lost three straight.
PLYMOUTH - Jackson Hendricks' goal late in the second period opened the scoring as Wayzata beat Rock Ridge 2-0 win over Rock Ridge in a matchup of top-20 teams at the Plymouth Ice Center.
No. 9-2A Wayzata (1-2-0) also got a shorthanded goal from Holton Davison with 21 seconds left in regulation.
Wyatt Jonassen made 42 saves for No. 20-2A Rock Ridge (1-2-0). Ryan Pellinger stopped 26 shots for the shutout.
CIRCLE PINES - Mahtomedi scored four times in the third period as it defeated Centennial 6-3 in the first round of the Centennial Holiday Tournament at the Centennial Sports Arena.
Brayden Fuerst and Vinny Redpath each scored two goals for No. 8-1A Mahtomedi (1-0-0). Redpath also added three assists.
Centennial (0-3-0) led 3-2 after two periods when Nick Carls scored with 37 seconds left in the period.
Fuerst scored 1:42 into the third to tie the contest. Devin O'Donnell gave the Zephyrs the lead nearly three minutes later and Redpath's second goal 92 seconds later pushed it to 5-3.
MONTICELLO - Sauk Rapids-Rice scored four goals in the third period - three coming in the game's final seven minutes - as it battled to a 5-5 overtime tie with Monticello at Moose Sherritt Ice Arena.
No. 9-1A Monticello, playing its second overtime game of the season, led 4-1 after two periods.
Elijah Fitch scored 16 seconds into the third period to start the comeback for Sauk Rapids-Rice (0-0-1).
Jack Sager's goal gave the Moose (0-1-1) a 5-2 lead but Bryden Prevlitz scored twice in two and one-half minutes to make it 5-4.
The Storm pulled goaltender Chase Wheeler with just under two minutes remaining and the move worked as Dominic Stucke tied the game with 68 seconds left.
The Storm outshot the Moose 4-2 in overtime. Wheeler finished with 31 saves.
CROOKSTON - Garrett Fischer scored 41 seconds into overtime as the Pirates rallied for a 5-4 win over Red Lake Falls at the Crookston Sports Center.
Crookston (2-0-0) trailed 3-0 early in the second period and 4-2 after two periods before rallying in the third.
Red Lake Falls (1-1-0) led 1-0 after the first and goals by Boe Nelson and Riley Broden pushed the Eagles' lead to 3-0 just 66 seconds into the third.
Fischer scored on the power play to get Crookston on the board and he assisted on Greyson Ecker's goal to make it 3-2. Nelson scored with 44 seconds left in the second to give Red Lake Falls the 4-2 lead.
Jay Reese scored a shorthanded goal to bring the Pirates within one, at 4-3, before Masen Reitmeier evened the game midway in the third.
Brady Chandler made 37 saves for Crookston while the Eagles' Draven Wirth stopped 34 shots.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. - East Grand Forks scored the game's first four goals as the Green Wave recorded a 5-1 win over Grand Forks (N.D.) Red River in a Gambucci Cup series matchup at Eagles Arena.
No. 4-1A East Grand Forks' first three goals came on the power play. Cy Hjelmen scored in the first period for the reigning state Class 1A champions, who are 1-1-0. Max Bies and Jace Panzer scored 61 seconds apart on separate power plays to push the lead to 3-0.
Cole Schmiedeberg made it 4-0. Bodey Schmaltz recorded the Green Wave's fifth goal.
East Grand Forks, Grand Forks Red River and Grand Forks Central all play each other twice each season in a round robing series that awards three points for the winner of each game.
