ST. PAUL - Cal Conway made 36 saves for his second shutout in as many games as No. 2 seed Stillwater beat No. 3 seed St. Thomas Academy 4-0 on Friday in a state Class 2A tournament semifinal at the Xcel Energy Center.
Conway, a transfer from Andover before the season, opened the tournament Thursday with a 5-0 shutout of his former team. Forced to sit out a large portion of the season because of eligibility issues, Conway is 9-0-0.
Jonas Kohn and Luca Jarvis scored first-period goals for the Ponies (24-6-0).
Trey Fredenberg put Stillwater ahead 3-0 early in the third when he banged home a rebound of a Luca Jarvis shot. Blake Vanek won a race to the puck just before it crossed the goal line to score an empty net goal that made it 4-0 in the closing minutes.
Stillwater, making its third state tournament appearance, will be playing in its first championship game.
Cody Niesen made 19 saves for St. Thomas Academy (24-6-0).
St. Thomas Academy finally got the puck past Stillwater's Cal Conway with 6:45 left in the third, but the goal was disallowed after video review because of goaltender interference. The Ponies went up 3-0 less than a minute later.

Everyone can see he's a great goaltender. Each game, he battles as hard as anyone I've ever seen back there.
