ST. PAUL - Caleb Pittsley scored with 1:07 left in overtime to send No. 5 Edina to a 2-1 victory over fourth-seeded Rogers in a Class 2A quarterfinal Thursday at Xcel Energy Center.
Pittsley intercepted a Rogers breakout pass, adjusted his angle and found a spot low to send the defending state champion Hornets (21-6-2) back to the Class 2A semifinals.
The teams traded second-period goals. Mason Jensen started the scoring 4:00 into the middle period, but Edina answered with a goal by Bode McConnell 10 minutes later.
Neither team could capitalize on power play chances in the final regulation period, setting the stage for Pittsley's heroics.
Edina goaltender Chase Bjorgaard made 23 saves in the winning effort. Rogers netminder Wyatt Knott turned in a 28-save performance in the loss.
Caleb Pittsley said he didn't put a lot of thought into his game-winning shot in overtime, but he alertly used a Rogers defender as a screen before notching his 21st goal of the season.
