ST. PAUL - Five different players scored as No. 2 Stillwater eased by seventh-seeded Andover 5-0 Thursday in a state Class 2A quarterfinal at the Xcel Energy Center.
Senior goalie Cal Conway backstopped the Ponies with 23 saves, shutting out his former team on the biggest stage. Conway played for Andover last season.
Stillwater struck twice in both the first and second periods.
Brody Dustin opened the scoring just 2:40 into the contest when he swatted a rebound just under the crossbar. Matthew Volkman doubled the Stillwater lead five minutes later, and Luca Jarvis and Luke Myers put the game out of reach in the middle stanza.
Junior goaltender Cash Cruitt turned in a 22 save effort for Andover (15-14-0).
The win puts Stillwater (23-6-0) into the Class 2A semifinals where they'll play the winner of St. Thomas Academy and Shakopee on Friday night at 6 p.m.
Luca Jarvis’ goal 1:48 into the second period put Stillwater up 3-0 and Andover in a hole to deep from which to climb.
