Hockey Night: Eden Prairie completes sweep of Minnetonka

Feb. 6: Bennett Willmer makes 26 saves in shutout of Skippers; Andover knocks off Rogers; Champlin Park tops Blaine

Eden Prairie 5, Minnetonka 0

MINNETONKA - Bennett Wilmer stopped all 26 shots he faced and Chase Klute scored twice as Eden Prairie beat Minnetonka 5-0 on Thursday at the Pagel Activity Center to sweep its regular-season series with the Skippers.

The victory likely assures the Eagles will receive the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Section 2AA playoffs. No. 13-2A Eden Prairie (13-7-2) also has victories over section foes Shakopee and Prior Lake.

Klute, a senior forward, scored the lone goal of the second period to put the Eagles ahead 1-0 and added one of two empty-net goals in the third. He leads Eden Prairie with 20 goals.

Nick Hubbard, Gavin Zick and Alex Hall also scored third-period goals for Eden Prairie.

Ben Ferguson made 27 saves for No. 15-2A Minnetonka (11-9-2).

Andover 4, Rogers 2

ROGERS - Cash Cruitt made 39 saves as Andover rallied from a two-goal deficit to beat Rogers 4-2 at the Rogers Ice Arena, just the second loss in 22 games for the No. 3-2A Royals.

K.J. Sauer scored late in the second period for No. 16-2A Andover (11-12-0), pulling the Huskies to within 2-1. Luke Babineau, Jordan Giacomini and Brody Peterson scored third-period goals for Andover.

Jayden Kurtz and Keaton Weis scored for Rogers, which had its 17-game unbeaten streak snapped.

Red Lake Falls 5, Thief River Falls 2

RED LAKE FALLS - Gavin Girdler scored twice for Red Lake Falls, as it rallied from an early two-goal deficit to beat Thief River Falls 5-2 at Cardin-Hunt Arena, believed to be just the second Eagles victory over the Prowlers in the team's histories.

Girdler and Riley Broden scored in the first period as Red Lake Falls (20-3-0) tied the score at 2-2 at intermission. Xavier Payment, Girdler and Nelson scored the final three goals, spanning the second and third periods, for Red Lake Falls.

Rylan Leake and Joe Kelly scored for Thief River Falls (8-11-1).'

Red Lake Falls outshot Thief River Falls 43-30.

Champlin Park 3, Blaine 1

BLAINE - Brent Solomon scored twice and Tanner Wylie stopped 28 shots as Champlin Park beat Blaine 3-1 at Fogerty Arena.

Solomon, a senior forward, scored the lone goal of the first period and completed the scoring with an empty-net goal with 1 second left.

Nick Carlson also scored for the Rebels (14-8-0). Wilson Guse scored the lone goal for Blaine (13-9-0).

Little Falls 2, Detroit Lakes 2 OT

LITTLE FALLS - Easton Kennedy scored with 5:57 left in regulation as Detroit Lakes rallied to tie Little Falls 2-2 in overtime at Exchange Arena.

Easton Wahl scored late in the second period for No. 19-2A Detroit Lakes (8-12-3), pulling the Lakers to within 2-1.

Ryan Oothoudt scored the lone goal of the first period and Luke Avery scored in the second for No. 13-1A Little Falls (13-7-3).

Detroit Lakes outshot Little Falls 7-4 in the overtime period.

Duluth Marshall 5, Duluth Denfeld 2

DULUTH - Bennett Scissons had a goal and an assist and Landon Wheeler made 27 saves as Duluth Marshall beat Duluth Denfeld 5-2 at Mars Lakeview Arena.

Duluth Marshall's Kyler Black scored the lone goal of the second period, putting the Hilltoppers ahead 3-0. Duluth Marshall (12-8-2) built its lead to 5-0 in the third on goals from Scissons and Tobias Mathias.

Alex Udd and Mason Kingsley scored in the third period for the Hunters (9-13-0).

Rochester Century/John Marshall 8, Rochester Mayo 1

ROCHESTER - Ole Fevold and Calvin O'Reilly each scored twice as Rochester Century/John Marshall beat Rochester Mayo 8-1 in the intracity matchup at Graham Arena.

Fevold scored the final goal of the first period to put the Panthers (16-6-0) ahead 2-0, and he scored the last goal of the second period as Century/John Marshall extended its lead to 5-0.

Kellan Huie scored the lone goal for Rochester Mayo (5-17-0).

Woodbury 3, Park 0

COTTAGE GROVE - Woodbury goaltender Michael Pietruszewski made 34 saves as he shut out Park 3-0 at Cottage Grove Ice Arena.

The Royals (9-12-1) scored all three of their goals in the third period, with Dittrich's goal 11:49 into the third proving to be the winner.

Aidan Miller made 27 saves for Park (13-8-1).

Hill-Murray 7, Mahtomedi 0

MAPLEWOOD - Chaz Lentz, Riley Kupfer and Caden Zasada each scored two goals as No. 4-2A Hill-Murray rolled to a 7-0 win over Mahtomedi at Aldrich Arena. The Pioneers have won nine of their last 10 games. 

Zupfer's two goals came in the first as the Pioneers (19-2-1) took a  3-0 lead. Lentz scored his second goal before Zasada scored two shorthanded goals to give Hill-Murray a 6-0 lead after two periods.

Landon Cottingham added a shorthanded goal in the third to complete the scoring.

Jackson Chesak made 52 saves for No. 12-1A Mahtomedi (7-14-2).

Winona 4, La Crescent-Hokah 4 OT

LA  CRESCENT - Aven Prodzinski's power-play goal with 3:19 left in regulation tied the game as Winona and La Crescent-Hokah tied 4-4 at the La Crescent Community Arena.

Winona (10-9-2) took a 1-0 lead on a power-play goal by Paxton Raymond in the first period. Following a power-play goal by Prodzinski, the Winhawks led 3-1 after Patrick Curtin scored with 2:46 remaining in the second.

La Crescent-Hokah (7-12-4) then scored three-straight goals, all by senior Mitchell Reining. He gave the Lancers a 4-3 lead with 4:32 to play.

Prodzinski leads Winona with 21 goals, including 8 on the power play.

Prairie Centre 4, Morris/Benson 3 OT

BENSON - Prairie Centre scored the game's final four goals to complete a comeback and defeated Morris/Benson 4-3 in overtime at the Benson Civic Center.

Aiken Lambrecht's power-play goal 3:46 into overtime won it for the North Stars (14-8-0).

Morris/Benson (9-15-0) took a 2-0 lead in the first after goals by Connor Hadfield and Alex Carlson. The Storm made it 3-0 with a second-period goal by Kye Suess.

Prairie Centre started its comeback with goals by Alex Trierweiler midway in the third. Demario Lopez scored with 3 minutes left in regulation to force overtime.

Carter Holman made 26 saves for the win while Gavin Schmidt stopped 47 shots for Morris/Benson.
