Hockey Night: Centennial upends White Bear Lake

Feb. 4: Joey Hemr's hat trick, Easton Cody's shutout lift Cougars; Warroad completes sweep of EGF; Buffalo knocks off Monticello

Centennial 3, White Bear Lake 2

CIRCLE PINES - Joey Hemr scored all three goals for Centennial and Easton Cody made 37 saves as the Cougars upset White Bear Lake 3-2 at Centennial Sports Arena despite being outshot 39-17.

Hemr scored twice in the second period and his shorthanded goal in the third put Centennial (7-14-0) ahead 3-1. Cody, one of the state's top senior goaltenders, made 17 saves in the third period.

Hemr split the White Bear Lake defense and snapped a quick shot that beat Bears' goaltender Leo Gabriel for the go-ahead goal at 2-1 late in the second. 

Liam Maloy opened the scoring in the second period and Kellen Beck scored with 6:37 left in the third for No. 9-2A White Bear Lake (13-5-3).

Leo Gabriel made 14 stops for the Bears.

Warroad 4, East Grand Forks 0

WARROAD - Finn Hanson notched a 30-save shutout and Gavin Andersen scored twice in the second period as Warroad beat Section 8A rival East Grand Forks 4-0 at The Gardens Arena.

Taven James and Ryan Shaugabay also scored for No. 3-1A Warroad (16-5-1), which completed a sweep of its regular season series with the No. 10-1A Green Wave (9-12-1). The Warriors beat East Grand Forks 3-1 on Jan. 16.

Buffalo 3, Monticello 2 OT

MONTICELLO - Brandon Rodenwald scored 5:09 into overtime and Logan Preugschas made 38 saves as Buffalo knocked off Monticello 3-2 at Moose Sherritt Ice Arena.

Rodenwald, a junior forward, also scored in the first period as the Bison (6-15-0) built a 2-0 lead. The goals give Rodenwald 15 on the season, second most on the team.

Nicklas Nelson and and Landen Scherber scored for the No. 6-1A Moose (19-2-1), who had their six-game win streak snapped.

Preugschas made 16 of his saves in the second period and five in the overtime session.

Rochester Lourdes 5, Dodge County 4 OT

ROCHESTER - Elliott Schell scored with 1:01 left in overtime to lift Rochester Lourdes past Dodge County 5-4 at Graham Arena.

Dodge County's Camryn Koch scored with 36 seconds left in regulation to force the overtime session. Koch also opened the scoring in the first period.

The teams exchanged leads twice and the game was tied four times. 

Gabe Coshenet and Brett Ludvigsen each had a goal and an assist for Dodge County (6-13-0).

Schell finished with a goal and two assists and Jack Phillips had a goal and three assists to pace Rochester Lourdes (11-7-1).

Blaine 3, Andover 1

ANDOVER - Grady Bautch scored the eventual game-winning goal early in the third period as Blaine beat Andover 3-1 at the Andover Community Center in a matchup of Northwest Suburban Conference rivals.

Sam Shaughnessy's empty-net goal with 1:19 left clinched the win for Blaine, which snapped a four-game losing streak.

Jack Rykkeli scored the lone goal for No. 16-2A Andover (10-12-0), which had its six-game win streak snapped. 

Andover beat Blaine 3-0 on Jan. 28 in the teams' previous meeting.

Northern Lakes 4, St. Cloud Cathedral 3

ST. CLOUD - Northern Lakes scored the final three goals, including two by Parker Fulton, as it upended St. Cloud Cathedral 4-3 at the Municipal Athletic Complex in a matchup of top Class 1A teams.

No. 5 St. Cloud Cathedral (13-8-2) led 3-1 on Joey Gillespie's goal with 1:52 left in the first period. Fulton scored with 37 seconds left in the first to pull No. 11 Northern Lakes (15-7-0) to within 3-2.

Fulton and Finn Fogarty scored in the second period to put the Lightning in front 4-3. 

St. Cloud Cathedral, the defending state Class 1A champion, outshot Northern Lakes 36-31. Sam Suja made 33 saves for Northern Lakes; Keaton Legrande made 27 stops for the Crusaders.

International Falls 4, Fort Frances (Ont.) 3

INTERNATIONAL FALLS - Zach Youso's power-play goal with 1:33 left in the third period gave International Falls a 4-3 win over Fort Frances, Ontario, in a border battle game at Bronco Arena. The win snaps a five-game losing streak for the Broncos.

International Falls (13-8-0) scored the game's first three goals, two by Anthony Yerxa. Fort Frances netted two power-play goals to cut the Broncos' lead to 3-2 after two periods.

Fort Frances tied the game with 4:56 left only to see Youso score the game winner, which was his third such tally of the season.

Yerxa, who assisted on Youso's goal, leads the Broncos with 60 points (31 goals/29 assists).

International Falls split its earlier meetings this season with Fort Frances.

Mankato West 4, Mankato East 0

MANKATO - Jakob Tosch scored twice and Mason Schreiber made 26 saves for his third shutout of the season as Mankato West defeated Mankato East 4-0 in a Big 9 Conference contest at All Seasons Arena.

Schreiber recorded his second shutout in four games for the Scarlets (8-11-1).

Brody Kunst stopped 31 shots for Mankato East (9-14-0).
