Karson Young and Jordan Sewell scored in the first period for No. 2-1A Cloquet/Esko/Carlton (9-0-0). Jacob Iallonardo, the state leader with a .965 save percentage, made 23 stops for the Lumberjacks.
No. 18-1A Luverne (7-1-1) pulled within 2-1 on a goal by Landon Lais. The junior forward is tied for ninth in the state with 28 points.
MAPLE GROVE - Jordan Giacomini scored twice and Cash Cruitt made 40 saves as previously winless Andover stunned previously unbeaten Rosemount 6-1 in the opening round of The Premiere Holiday Class in the Grove at the Maple Grove Community Center.
Andover (1-9-0) led 3-0 when Christian Garrity scored in the second period for No. 7-2A Rosemount (10-1-0).
PRIOR LAKE - Owen Nelson stopped 20 of 21 shots and Nate Chorlton scored the eventual game winner as Cretin-Derham Hall avoided a second-straight loss by holding off Eden Prairie 3-1 in the opening round of the Tradition Holiday Invitational at Dakotah! Ice Center.
Maverick Timmons scored into an empty net with 8 seconds remaining to clinch the victory for the No. 6-2A Raiders (7-1-1). Cretin-Derham Hall was coming off its first loss of the season, a 4-2 setback on Saturday against St. Thomas Academy.
Rio Treharne scored the lone goal for No. 10-2A Eden Prairie (6-4-0), tying the score at 1-1 late in the first period.
FERGUS FALLS - Tate Spilde's power-play goal 4:31 into overtime propelled Becker/Big Lake to a 5-4 victory over Breckenridge/Wahpeton in the opening round of the Fergus Falls Holiday Classic at Fergus Falls Community Arena.
Spilde also scored a second-period goal for the Eagles (2-5-1), who trailed 1-0 in the first and 4-3 early in the third. Brant Rushin forced the overtime period, scoring with 6:39 remaining.
Easton Nepal had a goal and an assist for the Blades (4-5-1).
HERMANTOWN - Junior goaltender Bryce Francisco stopped 27 shots for his third shutout of the season, leading Hermantown to a 3-0 victory over Delano at Hermantown Arena.
Kole Lendzyk and Bode Madill scored second-period goals for the No. 1-1A Hawks (6-2-2). Charlie Marchand completed the scoring in the third.
Evan Geyen made 36 saves for No. 6-1A Delano (5-4-0).
Francisco ranks fifth in the state with a 1.53 goals-against average and third with a .950 save percentage.
PRIOR LAKE - Junior forward Brayden Kvamme scored three goals to lead Moorhead past Edina 6-3 in the first round of the Tradition Holiday Invitational at the Dakotah! Ice Center.
The victory over the Hornets was the second this season for No. 5-2A Moorhead (9-1-0), the only team to beat No. 1-2A Edina (7-2-0) this season.
Brady Mullmann scored early in the third period to pull Edina to within 4-3.
Zach Zimmerman scored twice for Moorhead in a span of 4:14 to close out the scoring in the third.
