Hockey Night: Rogers' Jenson takes a bow

Dec. 14: Royals forward has hat trick in win over Stillwater; International Falls puts up another big number; Hermantown's Francisco stellar in goal

Rogers 5, Stillwater 1

ROGERS - Senior forward Mason Jenson scored three unanswered goals as Rogers overwhelmed previously undefeated Stillwater 5-1 on Saturday at Rogers Ice Arena in a showdown of top 10 Class 2A teams.

Jenson, a leading Mr. Hockey candidate, scored late in the first period to put No. 2-2A Rogers (6-1-0) ahead 3-0 and added two more goals early in the third to extend the lead to 5-0. Jenson has 13 goals this season, tied for second most in the state behind Orono's Jackson Knight's 14.

Blake Vanek scored the lone goal for No. 8-2A Stillwater (6-1-0).

International Falls 7, Kittson Central 5

INTERNATIONAL FALLS - Junior forward Anthony Yerxa continued his early season scoring spree, notching four goals to lead International Falls past Kittson Central 7-5 at Bronco Arena.

Yerxa opened the scoring 1:46 into the first, added another goal in the opening period and had one each in the second and third. Yerxa has 11 goals, tied for fourth most in the state, in three games.

International Falls has won its three games this season by a combined score of 28-6, twice reaching double digits in goals.

Wyatt Samuelson scored three goals for Kittson Central (1-3-1).

Hermantown 3, Maple Grove 0

HERMANTOWN - Junior goaltender Bryce Francisco stopped all 32 shots he faced, turning in one of the best goaltending performances of the season in Hermantown's 3-0 win over Maple Grove at the Hermantown Ice Arena.

Francisco has a 4-0-2 record in six starts for the No. 1-1A Hawks (4-1-2). His 1.58 goals-against average and .947 save percentage put him in the top 10 in the state in both categories.

Bode Madill had a goal and an assist for Hermantown, which scored a single goal in each period.

Zach Price stopped 30 of 33 shots for No. 16-2A Maple Grove (4-4-0).

East Grand Forks 3, Mahtomedi 1

EAST GRAND FORKS - Tucker Lovejoy scored a goal and added an assist and Noah Schindele stopped 19 shots as East Grand Forks beat Mahtomedi 3-1in a matchup of perennial state Class 1A title contenders at the East Grand Forks Civic Center.

No. 10-1A Mahtomedi (3-5-1) took a 1-0 lead on Will Seevers' first-period power play goal. No. 8-1A East Grand Forks (3-5-1) took over from there, scoring the final three goals.

The victory was the first of the season for the Green Wave against a Minnesota program. East Grand Forks has victories over Red River rivals Grand Forks Central and Grand Forks Red River, the top two North Dakota programs in the state's coaches poll.

Holy Family 4, Totino-Grace 3 OT

MINNEAPOLIS - Carson Moe scored 3:52 into overtime as Holy Family outlasted Totino-Grace 4-3 at the Brooklyn Park Ice Arena.

Totino-Grace (4-4-0) trailed 3-1 entering the third but forced the extra session on goals from Gus Hay and Roger Mourad.

Holy Family's (4-2-0) Aden Roy and Jack Barret scored the second-period goals. The Fire's Adam Kimbrel turned in another strong performance in goal, stopping 37 of 40 shots.

Totino-Grace goaltender Gavin Covrig made 35 saves.

Holy Family has won four straight after starting the season with back-to-back losses.

Albert Lea 6, Simley 4

ALBERT LEA - Six goals were scored in the final period, including three in the final 2 minutes as Albert Lea survived the wild finish to beat Simley 6-4 at Albert Lea City Arena.

Zaden Brua's goal with 1:15 put the Tigers (2-2-0) ahead 5-4 and Jacob Kolker added an empty net goal with 15 seconds left.

Overtime seemed imminent when Simley's (3-5-0) Lake Tuccitto and Tyler Letendre scored consecutive goals late in the third. Letendre's goal, his second of the game, came with 1:56 remaining.

Rochester Lourdes 1, Duluth Marshall 1 OT

DULUTH - Junior goaltender Anton Ackley made 36 saves as Rochester Lourdes skated to a 1-1 overtime tie with Duluth Marshall at Mars Lakeview Arena.

Ackley and Duluth Marshall's Landon Wheeler each made six saves in the overtime period. Wheeler finished with 27 saves for the Hilltoppers (4-1-2).

Charlie Kor's power-play goal late in the second period pulled Lourdes (4-3-1) into a 1-1 tie. Layton Anderson scored on a second-period power play for Duluth Marshall.

Forest Lake 5, Woodbury 2

FOREST LAKE - Eighth-grader Maverick McKinnon scored twice, giving him five goals on the season, to lead Forest Lake to a 5-2 win over Woodbury at the Forest Lake Sports Center.

McKinnon scored the lone goal of the first period and added an empty net goal with 13 seconds left to clinch the Suburban East Conference victory for the Rangers (2-4-0).

Ryan Hastings and Owen Fownes scored for Woodbury (3-5-0).
