Standout goaltenders Zach Price of Maple Grove and Carter Casey of Grand Rapids each had shutouts going until the late stages of the third period, when all the scoring occurred.
Jaden Roueche of No. 16-2A Maple Grove (4-3-0) and Nathan Garski of No. 14-2A Grand Rapids (5-2-0) traded goals midway through the final period.
Price, a top candidate for the Frank Brimsek Award that goes to the state's top senior goaltender, finished with 15 saves. Casey, a junior, had 33 stops.
EAST GRAND FORKS - Max Bies had a goal and an assist as East Grand Forks rallied from a two-goal deficit after the opening period to tie Orono 2-2 at the East Grand Forks Civic Center.
Bies scored the lone goal of the second period and assisted on Tucker Lovejoy's power-play goal with 5:04 left in the third.
Talan Reuter and Ethan Pagel scored for No. 13-1A Orono (4-3-0) and Evan Schmidt made 30 saves.
Noah Schindele made 16 saves for No. 8-1A East Grand Forks (2-5-1), which has yet to beat a Minnesota program this season.
WARROAD - Mahtomedi scored three unanswered goals in the second period and cruised to a 4-0 victory over Warroad at The Gardens Arena in a matchup of intimately familiar state Class 1A tournament foes in recent years.
Devon O'Donnell scored twice for No. 10-1A Mahtomedi (3-4-1) and goaltender Wes Strub made 24 saves.
Patrick Kennedy made 23 saves for No. 2-1A Warroad (2-2-1), which was shut out for the first time since the 2018-19 regular season when it lost 5-0 to Roseau on Jan. 10.
Warroad beat Mahtomedi 4-1 in the state Class 1A tournament third-place game last season. Mahtomedi beat Warroad 6-5 in two overtimes for the 2023 Class 1A championship. They also met in the 2022 state semifinals, with Warroad winning 5-4 in overtime.
VIRGINIA - Joey Welinski scored twice, and his shorthanded goal into an empty net with 4 seconds remaining clinched Little Falls' 4-1 triumph over Rock Ridge at the Iron Trail Motors Events Center.
Welinski, a senior forward, also scored the lone goal of the second period, giving the No. 12-1A Flyers (3-1-1) a 2-1 lead.
Caz Carlson scored the lone goal for Rock Ridge (4-3-0).
SAUK CENTRE - Leyton Fuchs and Keegan Christians scored first-period goals for Prairie Centre as it hung on to beat Becker/Big Lake 2-1 at the Sauk Centre Civic Arena.
Owen Zahler scored midway through the second period to pull Becker/Big Lake (0-3-1) to within one.
Carter Hollman had a big night in goal for the Stars (3-4-0), stopping 37 of 38 shots.
