Hockey Night: Rosemount tops Delano, stays unbeaten

Dec. 12: Toll scores twice for Irish; BSM tops Andover in OT; Eden Prairie stays hot

Rosemount 5, Delano 2

DELANO - Senior forward Josh Toll scored twice as Rosemount improved to 8-0-0 on Thursday with a 5-2 victory over Delano at the Delano Area Sports Arena.

Toll, a University of St. Thomas commit, opened the scoring midway through the first period and scored again 1:10 into the third to put the No. 12-2A Irish ahead 4-1.

Mason Hargarten and Lance Halonen scored for No. 6-1A Delano (3-2-0). Delano goaltender Even Geyen made 48 saves.

Rosemount is the lone 8-0-0 team in the state. The next best record is 6-0-0, shared by St. Thomas Academy and Stillwater.

The game was a reunion of sorts between eighth-year Rosemount head coach Rick Saintey and Delano coach Gerrit van Bergen. They were classmates and hockey teammates at Bethel College.

Benilde-St. Margaret's 3, Andover 2 OT

ANDOVER - Noah Johnson scored with 35 seconds on the clock in overtime as Benilde-St. Margaret's slipped past Andover 3-2 at the the Andover Community Center.

Cam Kirschner scored twice in the opening 5:45 of the first period to put the No. 7-2A Red Knights (3-1-0) ahead 2-0.

No. 20-2A Andover (0-7-0) rallied behind goals from Luke Babineau and Chase Nadeau. Six of the Huskies' losses have come against teams ranked in the top 20 in Class 2A.

Eden Prairie 6, Shakopee 5

EDEN PRAIRIE - Chase Klute scored twice and Rio Treharne had a goal and three assists and Eden Prairie hung on to beat Shakopee 6-5 at the Eden Prairie Community Center.

Klute, a senior forward, scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season 5:28 into the third period to put the No. 19-2A Eagles (4-1-0) ahead 5-4. Defenseman Nick Koering's power-play goal with 9:10 remaining put Eden Prairie ahead 6-4.

Cooper Siegert pulled No. 9-2A Shakopee (5-3-0) to within 6-5 with 47 seconds remaining. The Sabers' Cooper Simpson scored his 100th career goal on a second period power play.

The win over a top-10 Class 2A opponent was the second in as many games for Eden Prairie, which knocked off No. 10-2A Wayzata 3-2 on Tuesday.

Blaine 3, Elk River/Zimmerman 1

ELK RIVER - Sophomore forward Grady Bautch scored twice and sophomore goaltender Anthony Postudensek stopped 23 of 24 shots to lead Blaine, off to a surprising 5-1-0 start, to a 3-1 victory over Elk River/Zimmerman at the Furniture and Things Community Event Center.

Bautch and Nate Wallraff scored in the first period to put the Bengals, who went 6-20-1 last season, ahead 2-0.

Tristan Kriech scored in the second period for Elk River/Zimmerman (2-2-1), a state Class 2A tournament qualifier last season.

Monticello 5, Northfield 0

MONTICELLO - Nathan Poeppel and Carter Lemke each scored twice and Logan Blahnik made 17 saves for the shutout as Monticello beat Northfield 5-0 in a matchup of Class 1A unbeatens at Moose Sherritt Ice Arena.

The loss was the first of the season for No. 7-1A Northfield (6-1-1) and will undoubtedly shake up the state Class 1A rankings, as No. 11-1A Monticello improved to 5-0-0.

The goals give Poeppel a team-best eight this season. Lemke's two goals were his first of the season.

Monticello outshot Northfield 31-17, which had allowed a combined four goals in its previous four games.

Rogers 8, Champlin Park 2

CHAMPLIN - Rogers scored six unanswered goals in the second period, including two from Keaton Weis, on its way to an 8-2 victory over previously unbeaten Champlin Park at the Champlin Ice Forum.

Weis, a senior forward, upped his season total to six goals, second most on the No. 2-2A Royals (5-1-0) behind Mason Jenson's 10. Jenson scored a second-period goal. 

Brent Solomon scored his sixth of the season for No. 17-2A Champlin Park (4-1-0)
