Hockey Night: Cloquet roars past Hibbing

Nov. 26: Lumberjacks' offense erupts in Class 1A showdown, top-ranked Rogers beats White Bear Lake, BSM shuts out Gentry Academy

Cloquet/Esko/Carlton 8, Hibbing/Chisholm 5

HIBBING - Cloquet/Esko/Carlton Rallied from a four-goal first-period deficit by scoring eight of the final nine goals in an 8-5 triumph over Hibbing/Chisholm at the Hibbing Memorial Building.

Grady Knutson scored twice as the No. 8-1A Lumberjacks (2-0-0), who trailed 4-0 with 3:59 left in the first, erupted for five unanswered goals in the second period. 

Bobby Thornton and Lucas Gentilini scored in the third period as Cloquet/Esko/Carlton pulled away.

Jace Kampsula and Kelin Elsner each scored twice for No. 4-1A Hibbing/Chisholm (1-1-0).

Rogers 5, White Bear Lake 2

VADNAIS HEIGHTS - Brock Cheslock had a goal and an assist in the third period as Rogers broke open a tie game with three unanswered goals en route to a 5-2 victory over White Bear Lake at the TCO Sports Garden.

No. 1-2A Rogers improved to 3-0-0 with the victory over the Bears (1-1-0), who led 1-0 after the first and forged a 2-2 tie through two periods.

Mason Jenson had a goal and two assists to lead the Royals, giving the Ohio State commit seven points in three games.

White Bear Lake goaltender Leo Gabriel stopped 25 shots; Rogers' Wyatt Knott made 15 saves.

Detroit Lakes 4, East Grand Forks 0

EAST GRAND FORKS - Griffin Lindberg made 46 saves and Detroit Lakes scored its goals in the final period, including two from Carter Whitworth, as the Lakers knocked off East Grand Forks 4-0 at the East Grand Forks Civic Center.

The loss was the third in as many outings for the No. 6-1A Green Wave, who began the season at the top-ranked team in Class 1A.

No. 14-1A Detroit Lakes improved to 2-0-0.

Northfield 8, Rochester Century/John Marshall 7 OT

NORTHFIELD - Griffin Kennelly scored with 1:31 left in overtime to propel Northfield past Rochester Century/John Marshall 8-7 at Northfield Ice Arena.

Kennelly's goal was his second of the game, and he finished with five points for the No. 10-1A Raiders, making their season debut.

Ole Fevold scored four goals to lead the Panthers, also playing in their first game of the season.

Benilde-St. Margaret's 2, Gentry Academy 0

MAPLEWOOD - Junior forward Keegan Davis scored both Benilde-St. Margaret's goals, including an empty-netter with 37 seconds left, as the Red Knights beat Gentry Academy 2-0 at Aldrich Arena.

The season opener for No. 9-2A Benilde-St. Margaret's marked the varsity debut for Davis, who also scored in the second period.

Red Knights junior goaltender Christoper Dean stopped all 20 shots he faced to earn the shutout.

The loss was the first of the season for Gentry Academy, which opened play last week with three wins in as many days.

Prior Lake 4, Centennial 2

CIRCLE PINES - Prior Lake scored the final four goals as it rallied to upset Centennial 4-2 in the season opener for both teams at the Centennial Sports Arena.

Jacob Thomas, Mario Bernard, Bryce Lovett and Levi Eiter each had a goal and and assist for the Lakers, who trailed 2-0 after the opening period.

Kaden Johnson and Isaak Adams scored the first-period goals for No. 17-2A Centennial.
