Quick Recap

Sophomore Max Anderson scored with 4:37 left in the second overtime period to lift unseeded Cretin-Derham Hall past No. 3 seed Centennial 4-3 in a state Class 2A quarterfinal at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

Anderson’s goal ended a long stretch — at least 5 minutes — in which Cretin-Derham Hall dominated play, pinning the Cougars in their own end for much of that stretch. The Raiders outshot the Cougars 12-2 in the second overtime and if not for the brilliant play of Centennial goaltender Easton Cody, the game would have ended much earlier.

The teams traded quality chances in the first overtime, with shots ringing off the post and both Cretin-Derham Hall’s Owen Nelson and Centennial’s Cody making sprawling saves. Cretin-Derham Hall had four shots on goal to Centennial’s three in the first overtime.

Cretin-Derham Hall rallied from an early three-goal deficit, chipping away with goals by Aidan Siegfried in the first period, Chuck Owens in the second and Anderson in the third. Anderson’s goal tied it at 3-3 1:56 into the third.

Harper Searles opened the scoring 56 second into the first period and Nick Carls added two more goals as No. 15-2A Centennial (19-8-2) built a 3-0 lead with 6:51 left in the first period.

Cretin-Derham Hall (18-10-1) had a 34-28 advantage in shots on goal entering the overtime periods.

Key Moment

Centennial dominated most of the first period, building a 3-0 lead. Cretin-Derham Hall got a jolt of adrenalin late in the first when Aidan Siegfried scored with 3:16 remaining to make it 3-1. The Raiders had the advantage in zone time, shots and quality scoring chances the rest of the way.

They Said It

If we told you what it really means we’d have to kill you.
