Quick Recap

No. 2 seed Chanhassen erupted for three goals in the second period to take control, and star goaltender Kam Hendrickson stopped all 12 shots he faced as the Storm, making their first state tournament appearance, cruised to a 7-0 victory over unseeded Rochester Century/John Marshall on Thursday in a state Class 2A quarterfinal at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

Tyler Smith and Caden Lee scored 35 seconds apart in the second period to put No. 5-2A Chanhassen ahead 3-0 with 8:15 left. Gavin Uhlenkamp scored off a deflection with 6:09 left in the second to make it 4-0.

Micah Saxon, Jake Risch and Ryan McPartland - all members of Chanhassen's third line - scored third-period goals.

Jack Christ scored the lone goal of the first period with 21.2 seconds remaining to give the Storm a 1-0 lead.

No. 5-2A Chanhassen (24-5-0) had a goal disallowed with 2:09 left in the first when Storm, after video review, were ruled to have been offside entering the Panthers’ zone.

Seconds after the no-goal ruling, Rochester Century/John Marshall (22-5-2) had its best scoring opportunity of the period, with Brock Clarey taking multiple swipes at the puck only to be denied by Hendrickson’s left leg pad.

The Panthers didn’t register their first shot on goal until late in the opening period and finished with four in all. Chanhassen had 12 shots in the opening period. The Storm finished with a 42-12 advantage in shots.

Key Moment

Caden Lee’s goal midway through the first period — he used his exceptional speed to race untouched into the offensive zone before snapping off a wicked shot — came 35 seconds after a goal by Tyler Smith and put the Storm ahead 3-0.

They Said It

They always get us mixed up. Tyler and Jack Christ. Jake Christ. Jack Rasch. It’s alright. My mom doesn’t even recognize me right now.
