Feb. 22: Lancers' Farrell inches closer to state career goal-scoring record; Owatonna beats Lakeville North in 2 OTs

Section 1A Quarterfinal

La Crescent-Hokah 7, Winona 5

LA CRESCENT - Noah Gillette scored three goals and Wyatt Farrell inched closer to the state's career goal-scoring record on Thursday as No. 3 seed La Crescent-Hokah beat longtime rival and No. 6 seed Winona 7-5 in a Section 1A quarterfinal at a packed La Crescent Community Arena.

Gillette scored what proved to be the winning goal with 7:40 remaining as the No. 17-1A Lancers (24-2-0) pulled in front 6-4.

Teis Larsen scored his third goal of the game, and 45th of the season, with 5:37 remaining to pull Winona (16-8-1) to within 6-5.

La Crescent's Farrell scored his second of the game and 50th of the season into an empty net with 1:24 left. Farrell needs two more goals to tie Little Falls' Ben Hanowski's career mark of 196.

Section 1AA Quarterfinal

Owatonna 4, Lakeville North 3 (2 OT)

OWATONNA - Owen Beyer scored in the second overtime period to lift No. 4 seed Owatonna past No. 5 Lakeville North 4-3 in a Section 1AA quarterfinal at the Four Seasons Centre.

Owatonna (18-5-3) led 3-0 early in the second period on Andrew Mitchell's second goal of the game.

Lakeville North rallied on three consecutive goals by Gunnar Conboy (one in the second and two in the third).

The loss denies Lakeville North a chance to reach the section title game for the first time since 2020. The Panthers have played in 16 of the past 17 section championship games.

Section 2AA Quarterfinal

Eden Prairie 6, Holy Family 2

EDEN PRAIRIE - Mason Moe scored twice in the second period to help lead No. 4 seed Eden Prairie to a 6-2 triumph over No. 5 seed Holy Family at the Eden Prairie Community Center.

Moe, a sophomore forward who leads the Eagles with 23 goals, scored his second goal with 37 seconds left in the second to give No. 14-2A Eden Prairie (17-8-1) a 6-1 lead.

Thomas Laaksonen and Connor Crowley, who played for Eden Prairie last season, scored for No. 19-2A Holy Family (16-8-2).

Section 1A Quarterfinal

Albert Lea 3, Rochester Lourdes 2 (2 OT)

ALBERT LEA - Junior defenseman Connor Pirsig scored 6:32 into the second overtime period as No. 4 seed Albert Lea beat No. 5 Rochester Lourdes 3-2 at Albert Lea City Arena.

Rochester Lourdes (9-17-0) led 2-0 through two periods. Albert Lea rallied in the third on goals from Zaden Brua and Eli Farris. The goal by Farris came with 2:13 left in regulation.

Section 3AA Quarterfinal

Rosemount 5, Eagan 1

ROSEMOUNT - Owen Durigan scored twice as No. 2 seed Rosemount rallied from an early deficit to beat No. 7 Eagan 5-1 in a Section 3AA quarterfinal at the Rosemount Ice Arena.

Isaac Martin scored the lone goal of the first period as Eagan (11-14-1) headed into the second period with a 1-0 lead.

Cade Sherman and Durigan scored in the second period for No. 12-2A Rosemount (19-7-0), with both goals coming on power plays.
