Hockey Night: Monticello rallies for wild OT victory over Chisago Lakes

Jan. 19: Moose extend win streak to 10; Leo Gabriel notches sixth shutout of season for White Bear Lake

Monticello 7, Chisago Lakes 6 (OT)

LINDSTROM - Roman Thompson's rebound goal 3:31 into overtime secured Monticello's 7-6 victory over Chisago Lakes and completed a furious comeback for the Moose, who trailed by three goals entering the third period of Friday's game at Chisago Lakes Ice Arena.

Benjamin Kerkow's goal with 22 seconds left in the second period put Chisago Lakes (8-9-0) ahead 6-3. 

Landen Scherber, Thompson and Brady McGriff scored third-period goals for No. 9-1A Monticello (14-2-0). Thompson finished with three goals for the Moose and has a team-best 24 this season.

The victory extended Monticello's winning streak to 10 games. The Moose haven't lost since a 6-3 setback against Northfield on Dec. 12.

White Bear Lake 2, Grand Rapids 0

GRAND RAPIDS - Leo Gabriel made 32 saves as White Bear Lake beat Grand Rapids 2-0 at Yanmar Arena despite being outshot by a wide margin.

Dylan Buetow scored in the second period and Maverick Timmons in the third for No. 11-2A White Bear Lake (11-3-1).

Grand Rapids (9-8-0) outshot the Bears 32-17.

The shutout was the second straight and sixth of the season for Gabriel, who has a 1.91 goals-against average and .924 save percentage. Gabriel's six shutouts are tied for most in the the state with Hunter Bauer of Minnetonka.

St. Paul Johnson 1, Spooner (Wis.) 1 (OT)

SPOONER, Wis. - Alexander Themmes scored an improbable goal with 6 seconds left in regulation for St. Paul Johnson as the Governors forged a 1-1 overtime tie with Spooner, Wis.

Themmes, stationed at the side of the net, banked the puck in off the side of Spooner goaltender Daulton Brummond.

The teams played a scoreless 8-minute overtime period then played a 5-minute 3-on-3 OT period during which Spooner (4-8-0) scored. For Minnesota State High School League record-keeping purposes, the game is recorded as a 1-1 tie.

Rosemount 3, Apple Valley/Burnsville 2 (OT)

BURNSVILLE - Owen Durigan scored 28 seconds into overtime to boost Rosemount past Apple Valley/Burnsville 3-2 at the Burnsville Ice Center.

Apple Valley/Burnsville (3-14-0) forced the overtime on Fisher Hatfield's goal with 1:34 left in regulation. Eagles junior goaltender Max Wiggins was superb in making 46 saves.

Hans Hedlund and Fisher Hatfield also scored for No. 13-2A Rosemount (13-5-0).

Holy Family 3, Sartell-St. Stephen 2 (OT)

SARTELL - Connor Crowley scored 2:38 into overtime to lift Holy Family to a 3-2 win over Sartell-St. Stephen at Bernick's Ice Arena.

The victory was the third straight for the No. 10-2A Fire (10-4-1), who have allowed just four goals during that streak. Holy Family goaltender Stefano Carranza stopped 22 of 24 shots against the Sabres, who held leads of 1-0 and 2-1.

Shaun Paulson and Kyan Rieder scored for Sartell-St. Stephen. Sawyer Graubins and Erik Charcheko scored second-period goals for Holy Family.
