Jan. 6: Warriors halt 53-year losing streak to Pioneers; Prior Lake upends Shakopee; Hermantown outlasts Eden Prairie

Two Rivers 3, Hill-Murray 2 (OT)

MAPLEWOOD - Will Auran's power-play goal in overtime secured a historic victory for unranked Two Rivers on Saturday, as the Warriors beat No. 11-2A Hill-Murray for what is believed to be the program's first win over the Pioneers in the long-running series between the east metro teams.

The teams had their first meeting in 1978, played again in 1983 and then competed together in the Classic Suburban conference staring in 2001-02. They joined their current conference, the Metro East, in 2014-15. Hill-Murray racked up 34 consecutive victories over Two Rivers (the high school was named Henry Sibley during much of that time) before Saturday's surprising result.

Superb goaltending was part of the formula for halting the 53-year losing streak, as Two Rivers senior Brady Altier stopped 56 shots.

Ryan Rohrer and Patrick Karlen scored 19 seconds apart early in the first period to put Two Rivers (10-4-0) ahead 2-0.

Hill-Murray (5-5-2) rallied with a goal in the second by Lucas Mann and another in the third from Joseph Luger to make it 2-2. The loss was the fourth straight for the Pioneers.
