DULUTH - Sophomore forward Cory Backstrom scored with 3 minutes left in overtime Friday, his second goal of the game, as Duluth Denfeld beat Cloquet/Esko/Carlton 4-3 to win the championship of the Heritage Holiday Classic at the Heritage Sports Center.
The teams traded goals in the first two periods, then Denfeld (8-3-1) took its first lead, at 3-2, midway through the third period on Backstrom's first goal.
Niko Gentilini's power-play goal pulled No. 9-1A Cloquet/Esko/Carlton (7-4-0) into a 3-3 tie with 3 minutes left in regulation.
Backstrom's goals were his third and fourth of the season.
ST. LOUIS PARK - A power-play goal by Ben Norris with 8:40 remaining Friday helped Benilde-St. Margaret's salvage a 3-3 tie with Holy Angels at the St. Louis Park Rec Center in the second round of The Premiere Holiday Classic in the Park.
Leo Stebbins and Henry Lechner scored in the opening 6:07 of the third period as No. 20-2A Holy Angels (8-2-1) grabbed a 3-2 lead. Lechner, a junior forward committed to the University of St. Thomas, leads the Stars with 27 points.
Cam Kirschner and Nick Johnson added goals for No. 5-2A Benilde-St. Margaret's (8-1-1).
Benilde-St. Margaret's outshot Section 6AA rival Holy Angels 8-5 in the overtime period.
MAPLE GROVE - Maple Grove scored five unanswered goals in the third period, including four by Lucas Busch, as it roared from three goals behind to beat Holy Family 5-3 at the Maple Grove Community Center in the third round of The Premiere Holiday Classic in the Park.
Tanner Davis put No. 9-2A Holy Family (6-2-1) ahead 3-0 22 seconds into the third period. Maple Grove, led by Busch, then went on its scoring frenzy, with Busch's goal with 2:39 remaining putting the No. 12-2A Crimson (8-2-0) ahead 4-3.
Busch, a senior forward, has a team-leading 10 goals this season. Maple Grove extended its winning streak to eight games.

SHAKOPEE - Nate Pederson scored twice and added an assist to lead Shakopee past Hermantown, the top-ranked team in Class 1A, 4-0 at the Shakopee Ice Arena.
Cooper Simpson and Pederson scored second-period goals to put No. 10-2A Shakopee in front 2-0. Peterson scored 1:41 into the third period to make it 3-0 and Nathan Heilman completed the scoring with 1:45 left.
Dane Callaway made 33 saves for No. 1-1A Hermantown (6-2-2). Aleksi Huson made 35 saves for Shakopee. Earlier this season he made 60 saves in a 1-1 tie with Rogers.
ST. LOUIS PARK - Andy Earl scored twice for Chanhassen as it cruised past Hill-Murray 4-1 at the St. Louis Park Rec Center in a third-round game of The Premiere Holiday Classic in the Park.
Earl scored the lone goal of the first period and completed the scoring in the third with 2:27 remaining. His eight goals are tied for second most on the No. 3-2A Storm (9-4-0).
Landon Cottingham scored the lone goal for No. 8-2A Hill-Murray (5-3-2).
