THIEF RIVER FALLS - Carson Pilgrim scored on a breakaway in overtime to lift Warroad to a 4-3 victory over East Grand Forks on Friday in a showdown of Section 8A powers at Ralph Engelstad Arena.
Pilgrim took a perfectly placed clearing feed from Murray Marvin-Cordes in neutral ice and unleashed a low shot for the winner. The goal was Pilgrim's second of the game and 12th of the season.
HERMANTOWN - Trent Nelson stopped 30 of 31 shots and Christian Garrity's goal 53 seconds into the third period proved to be the winner game as Rosemount beat Hermantown 3-1, the Hawks' first loss of the season.
Eli Lewis and Gavin McNeil also scored for No. 8-2A Rosemount (9-1-0), which has won nine straight since a season-opening loss to No. 1-2A Minnetonka. McNeil's goal came with 1:47 remaining.
No. 1-1A Hermantown (4-1-2) took a 1-0 lead midway through the second period on a goal by Ford Skytta.
INTERNATIONAL FALLS - Max Hanson scored midway through the third period for Fort Frances as the visiting Muskies forged a 2-2 overtime tie with International Falls in a matchup of longtime border rivals at Bronco Arena.
Cooper Crandall and Gage Wallander scored first-period goals as International Falls (2-4-1) took a 2-1 led.
Blake Kreger put Fort Frances ahead 1-0 midway through the opening period.
The teams, playing for a stuffed walleye trophy, aka "the fish," have played to a tie just twice in their 89 meetings.
MENDOTA HEIGHTS - Niko Russ scored with 2:02 remaining to lift St. Thomas Academy to a 4-3 victory over Cretin-Derham Hall in a private school rivalry showdown at St. Thomas Ice Arena.
The goal was the second of the season for Russ, a junior forward, who fired a shot from the high slot just under the crossbar.
No. 15-2A Cretin-Derham Hall (3-3-0) led 2-0 early in the second period on a goal by Easton Swift. No. 19-2A St. Thomas Academy scored the next three goals, and Will Dosan put the Cadets (5-3-1) ahead 3-2 early in the third.
Dawson Kloek tied it at 3-3 for the Raiders, setting up Russ' winner.
LUVERNE - Sophomore Blake Sauer scored twice to lead Luverne, the last of the state's unbeaten Class 1A teams, past Dodge County 4-3 at Blue Mound Ice Arena.
Sauer scored in the first period to put the No. 17-1A Cardinals (8-0-0) ahead 2-1. His second-period goal put Luverne ahead 4-1.
Gryffon Funke scored twice for Dodge County (5-4-0).
EDEN PRAIRIE - Dawson Miller scored his first varsity goal as Eden Prairie forged a 2-2 overtime tie with Wayzata at the Eden Prairie Community Center.
Eden Prairie (4-3-1) led 1-0 through two periods, but No. 2-2A Wayzata (8-0-1) rallied to avert the upset and remain unbeaten.
Wayzata outshot Eden Prairie 46-17.
