ST. CLOUD - Grady Dimberio and Can Carlson scored in the final 4:50 to break a tie and lift Rock Ridge past previously unbeaten St. Cloud Cathedral 5-3 on Saturday at the Municipal Athletic Complex.
The teams exchanged the first six goals, with Cole Hwang pulling No. 2-1A St. Cloud Cathedral (6-1-1) into a 3-3 tie with 11:25 remaining. The Crusaders never led.
Dimberio, a junior forward, put Rock Ridge (6-1-0) ahead 4-1 with 4:50 remaining and Carlson's power-play goal came with 1:05 left. Carlson, a sophomore, has scored in all but two of the Wolverines' games.
Rock Ridge has opted to move up a class and will participate in the Class 2A playoffs for the first time this season.
VICTORIA - Andy Earl and Gavin Uhlenkamp each had two goals and two assists as Chanhassen overwhelmed previously unbeaten Rogers 8-1 at the Victoria Recreation Center.
No. 3-2A Chanhassen (5-3-0) scored three goals in each of the first and second periods as it took a commanding 6-0 lead. Jayden Kurtz scored for No. 4-2A Rogers (6-1-1) with 3:11 remaining, ending Storm goaltender Kam Hendrickson's shutout bid. Hendrickson finished with 27 saves.
HERMANTOWN - Senior goaltender Dane Callaway stopped 29 of 30 shots and River Freeman had a goal and two assists as Hermantown beat Mahtomedi 5-1 in matchup of Class 1A heavyweights at Hermantown Ice Arena.
Patrick Egan put No. 4-2A Mahtomedi (3-6-0) ahead 1-0 with the only goal of the first period. And then No. 1-1A Hermantown (4-0-1) took over, scoring four unanswered goals in the second period and tacking on another late in the third.
Mahtomedi, the defending state Class 1A champion, upended Hermantown 2-1 in the semifinals of last season's state tournament. Mahtomedi defeated Hermantown 3-2 in overtime for the 2020 state title.
Callaway, a top candidate for the Frank Brimsek Award, leads the state with a .973 save percentage and 0.78 goals-against average.
KASSON - Gryffon Funke and Brett Ludvigsen each had a hat trick and moved into the top three in the state in scoring as Dodge County beat Faribault 12-3 at Dodge County Ice Arena.
Funke's three goals give him 18 this season, the most in the state. He and Ludvigsen have 28 points, tied for third statewide. Ludvigsen had four assists and Funke three for Dodge County (5-3-0).
Oliver Linnemann scored twice in the first period for Faribault (2-5-0).
