Hockey Night: Minnetonka wins another by blowout

Nov. 25: Skippers overwhelm Andover, St. Cloud Cathedral tops Warroad in OT, Irondale wins on wild OT play

Minnetonka 8, Andover 0

MINNETONKA - Senior Javon Moore scored three goals and added an assist as Minnetonka cruised past Andover 8-0 in the second round of the Tonka Thanksgiving Preview at the Pagel Activity Center.

The running-time victory was the second in as many nights for No. 1-2A Minnetonka (2-0-0), the defending state Class 2A champion. The Skippers beat Rosemount 10-3 on Friday. 

Moore, a Minnesota commit, is second in the state in goals with six and the state's points leader with 10. 

No. 11-2A Andover (1-1-0) managed just five shots on goal compared to Minnetonka's 42.

St. Cloud Cathedral 3, Warroad 2 (OT)

WARROAD - Griffin Sturm scored with 0.5 seconds remaining in overtime to lead St. Cloud Cathedral to a 3-2 win over Warroad at The Gardens Arena.

Sturm collected a rebound in the slot and fired a rising shot over Warroad goaltender Ben Norris' glove hand for the winning goal.

Murray Marvin-Cordes scored twice for No. 2-1A Warroad (1-1-0). He gave the Warriors a 2-1 lead with 5:30 remaining in the third period, but Joey Gillespie evened the score two minutes later to force overtime.

Nick Hansen was superb in goal for No. 6-1A St. Cloud Cathedral (1-0-1), finishing with 41 saves.

Centennial 3, Eastview 2

CIRCLE PINES - Heath Nelson scored 1:51 into overtime as Centennial beat Eastview 3-2 in the second round of the Centennial Holiday Tourney at Centennial Sports Arena.

The goal was the second of the game for Nelson, a senior forward.

Brayden Kaldenbach's goal early in the second period tied it at 2-2 as Eastview (1-1-0) rallied from a 2-0 deficit.

Gavin Cunningham also scored for No. 18-2A Centennial (2-0-0).

Dodge County 6, Simley 3

INVER GROVE HEIGHTS - Brett Ludvigsen scored three goals and Gryffon Funke added two as Dodge County eased past host Simley in the championship game of the Spartan Turkey Tourney at Veterans Memorial Community Center.

Simley (0-1-1) opened the scoring with goals from Matt Milner and Jake Stanton. No. 18-1A Dodge County (2-0-0) scored the next four goals, including two from Ludvigsen, as it took control.

Funke, a senior, leads the state with seven goals. Ludvidgsen, a junior, is tied for fifth with four.

Champlin Park 9, Eagan 2

WOODBURY - Trevor Aberwald scored four goals as Champlin Park raced past Eagan 9-2 to win the championship of the Woodbury Thanksgiving Tournament at the M Health Fairview Sports Center.

One night after Brent Solomon scored six goals for the Rebels, it was Aberwald's turn to grab the spotlight. The senior scored two of his goals as part of a run of seven consecutive goals for the Rebels (2-0-0). 

Danny Lachenmayer and Brylee Koenck-Proeungg scored for Eagan (1-1-0).

Rosemount 2, Chanhassen 1

MINNETONKA - Kade Lotysz's second-period goal held up as the game-winner as Rosemount recorded the upset win over Chanhassen the second round of the Tonka Thanksgiving Preview at the Pagel Activity Center.

Luca Salak also scored for Rosemount (1-1-0), which got 18 saves from Trent Nelson.

Ben Curtis scored in the third period for No. 2-2A Chanhassen, which dropped to 0-2-0.

Irondale 2, Pine City 1 (OT)

MARSHALL - Gavin Bourassa scored with 3:54 remaining in overtime to give Irondale the 2-1 win over Pine City and the Marshall Thanksgiving Classic championship at the Red Baron Arena and Expo.

Bourassa scored into an empty net from long range as part of a wild sequence that saw both goaltenders head to the bench after a delayed penalty was called.

Irondale's John Slack forced overtime by scoring with 35 seconds left in regulation.

Trysten Thurman scored in the third for Pine City.

Alex Sabev stopped 38 shots for Irondale.

Shakopee 5, Duluth East 4

BLOOMINGTON - Sophomore Cooper Siegert scored three goals, all in the second period, as Shakopee held on to upend Duluth East in the second round of The Opener at the Bloomington Ice Garden.

No. 16-2A Duluth East (0-2-0) twice trailed by two goals in the second period but closed to within 4-3 late in the period on a power-play goal by Thomas Gunderson. 

Siegert's third goal came with 2:26 left in the second period and put Shakopee (2-0-0) ahead 5-3.

Noah Teng scored in the third period for Duluth East, which outshot Shakopee 30-24, following a 15-1 shot margin in the third.

Wayzata 6, Maple Grove 4

PLYMOUTH - Rhys Wallin scored three goals and Luke Miller had two to power Wayzata to a 6-4 win over Maple Grove in the second round of the Wayzata Turkey Trot at Plymouth Ice Center.

No. 4-2A Wayzata (2-0-0) led 3-1 less than five minutes into the opening period but Maple Grove rallied to tie it entering the second on goals from Lucas Busch and Luke Giuliani.

Wallin scored back-to-back goals to close the second period and put the Trojans ahead 5-4.

Andrew Karkoc scored twice and had two assists for No. 14-2A Maple Grove (0-2-0).
