Inside Scoop

Which team will show up for the Crusaders? It's a pertinent question, because these guys are streaky.

A season-long roller-coaster ride continued in the Section 5A championship game as St. Cloud Cathedral needed some extra time and a comeback to claim its 11th section title with a 4-3 double-overtime win over Little Falls.

Despite trailing 3-0 in the second period, St. Cloud Cathedral kept coming back. That approach will be key this week in the Crusaders’ quest to win their second state title.

St. Cloud Cathedral opened the season with a three-game losing streak but eventually won five-straight contests from Dec. 29-Jan. 10. And so it went. A three-game win streak in late January was followed by the Crusaders losing five of six (the win was over a ranked Providence Academy team) before righting the ship with a win over Monticello in the regular-season finale.

When on its game, Cathedral can play with anyone — as shown in the section playoffs when the Crusaders outscored their opponents 16-5.
