Quick Recap

EDINA - Senior Jake Fisher and freshman Max Anderson each scored twice as No. 2 seed Cretin-Derham Hall beat longtime rival and No. 1 seed St. Thomas Academy 4-2 on Wednesday night in the Section 3AA championship in front of a capacity crowd estimated at 2,200 at Braemar Arena.

Linemates Anderson and Fisher each scored in the opening 5:18, much to the delight of the massive Cretin-Derham Hall student section. Fisher, a Mr. Hockey finalist, scored again with 3:45 left in the first.

Tommy Cronin scored midway through the second period for No. 8-2A St. Thomas Academy (19-7-0) to make it 3-1 heading into the third. Lucas Kickhofel scored 3:33 into the third as the Cadets pulled to within a goal at 3-2.

Anderson scored his second of the game with 7:01 remaining and No. 11-2A Cretin-Derham Hall (17-9-1), the defending section champion, cruised to the victory from there.

The teams played twice in the regular season with St. Thomas Academy winning 4-2 on Nov. 25 and Cretin-Derham Hall winning 4-2 on Dec. 22, snapping a nine-game losing skid to the Cadets dating to 2014.

The game sold out Monday within five hours of tickets being available online.
