ST. CLOUD - Senior Joe Lamski scored on a breakaway 1:29 into the opening period and added another breakaway goal in the third to lead No. 1 seed Alexandria past No. 4 seed Wadena-Deer Creek 7-2 on Tuesday in a Section 6A semifinal at the Municipal Athletic Complex.
Senior Nick Peterson also scored twice, both coming in the second period, as the defending section champion Cardinals (13-12-1) built a 5-1 lead entering the third. Peterson leads Alexandria with 19 goals. Four other Cardinals have double-digit goal totals, including Lamski with 13.
Evan Lunde scored midway through the second period as Wadena-Deer Creek (15-10-2) tied the score at 1-1. Alexandria answered with goals from Tyler Kludt and Evan Anderson to close the period.
Dalton Moyer scored early in the third period for the Wolverines, trimming Alexandria’s lead to 5-2.
Alexandria outshot Wadena-Deer Creek 38-20.
The Cardinals, who started the season 0-7-0, have won five straight and 11 of their past 13 games.
Alexandria will play Fergus Falls in the section final for the second-straight season on Thursday. The teams also met in the 2021 section semifinals with the Otters winning that contest.
