Hockey Night: Rogers rallies to slip past Centennial

Feb. 28: Parker Deschene emerges as go-to scorer for Royals; Orono outlasts Minneapolis

Section 5AA Semifinal

Rogers 5, Centennial 4

BLAINE - Sophomore Parker Deschene scored with 19.5 seconds remaining to give No. 1 seed Rogers a 5-4 win over No. 4 seed Centennial on Tuesday in a Section 5AA semifinal at Fogerty Arena.

Senior Mr. Hockey finalist Sam Ranallo skated to the left side of the goal before feeding Deschene for a backdoor tip on the game-winning goal.

Deschene scored a power-play goal to tie the game at 4-4 with 4:36 remaining.

No. 10-2A Rogers (18-6-3) trailed 4-2 after two periods. Mason Jenson's third-period goal pulled the Royals to within 4-3.

Centennial (15-11-1) twice led by two goals, 2-0 in the first and 4-2 after two.

Section 5AA Semifinal

Maple Grove 6, Champlin Park 2

BLAINE - Senior forward Jack Kernan's hat trick led Maple Grove to a 6-2 win over Champlin Park in a Section 5AA semifinal at Fogerty Arena. The Crimson, which avenged a 2-1 loss to Champlin Park Jan. 19, have won five straight.

No. 4-2A Maple Grove (21-5-1) reached a section title game for the eighth straight season. The Crimson have won each of the previous three section championships.

No. 18-2A Champlin Park (17-10-0) was playing in a section semifinal for just the second time in the last 10 seasons.

Section 2A Semifinal

Orono 8, Minneapolis 5

ST. LOUIS PARK - Tommy Lewin's two goals in the third period lifted Orono to an 8-5 win over Minneapolis in a Section 2A semifinal at the St. Louis Park Rec Center.

Lewin tied it at 5-5 when his shot from outside the crease found the back of the net just 1:59 into the final period. He gave the Spartans the lead with 10:16 remaining on a shot from the slot. Orono added two empty-net goals.

No. 4-1A Orono (22-5-0) led 2-1 after the first on power-play goals by Easton Sankey and Avery Anderson.

No. 14-1A Minneapolis (16-9-2), the defending section champion, rallied with four goals in the second for a 5-4 lead. Hank Davis scored twice while Cooper Cirone and Andrew Lybeck also had goals. Connor Lang and Sankey scored in the period for the Spartans.

Joey Greenagel, Bradley Walker and Joey Mugaas each had two assists for Orono.

Section 4A Semifinal

Mahtomedi 9, St. Paul Academy 1

MAPLEWOOD - Mahtomedi erupted for six goals in the second period as the Zephyrs rolled to a 9-1 win over St. Paul Academy in a Section 4A semifinal at Aldrich Arena.

Charlie Drage scored a goal in the first and second period for No. 3-1A Mahtomedi (18-8-0). Cav Bruner and Corey Bohmert each added two assists for the Zephyrs.

Casey Lynn scored in the second period for St. Paul Academy (14-11-1).

Drage and longtime linemate David Wolsfeld, both seniors, each topped the 100-point mark for their careers in the victory.

Section 2A Semifinal

Chisago Lakes 3, Two Rivers 2

MAPLEWOOD - Nathan Bluhm scored twice to lead Chisago Lakes to a 3-2 win over Two Rivers in a Section 2A semifinal at Aldrich Arena.

Bluhm's two goals were part of a three-goal outburst in the second period for Chisago Lakes (16-10-1), which had to withstand a Two Rivers rally.

Bluhm started the scoring with a power-play goal 2:28 into the period. Drake Thyen gave the Wildcats a 2-0 lead with 11:03 remaining before Bluhm's second goal came with 6:40 left.

Eddie Auran scored for Two Rivers (17-9-1) with 2:38 left in the second. Joe Shepherd made it a one-goal game by scoring 26 seconds into the third. Two Rivers outshot the Wildcats 13-7 in the final period.

Jack Hanson made 36 saves for Chisago Lakes.
