Hockey Night: STA, Cretin-Derham Hall set to renew rivalry

Feb. 24: Cadets, Raiders reach Section 3AA title game; Dodge County outlasts La Crescent

St. Thomas Academy 4, Eastview 0

EDINA - Tyler Magozzi made 25 saves for his sixth shutout of the season as No. 1 seed St. Thomas Academy defeated No. 4 seed Eastview 4-0 on Friday in a Section 3AA semifinal at Braemar Academy.

St. Thomas Academy advances to Wednesday's section championship game against longtime rival Cretin-Derham Hall. The teams split their regular season series.

No. 8-2A St. Thomas Academy (19-7-0) broke out for three goals in the second following a scoreless opening period. Zach Howard, Jimmy Zavoral and Brody Dietz scored for the Cadets.

Lucas Kickhofel added an insurance goal in the third. Tommy Cronin led St. Thomas Academy with three assists.

Jay Svaren made 26 saves for No. 16-2A Eastview (17-10-0).

Cretin-Derham Hall 3, Rosemount 1

EDINA - Jake Fisher scored with 3:21 remaining in regulation to give No. 2 seed Cretin-Derham Hall a 3-1 win over No. 3 seed Rosemount in a Section 3AA semifinal at Braemar Arena.

Fisher's goal broke a 1-1 tie. He added an assist on an empty-net goal by Chuck Owens with 15 seconds left.

No. 13-2A Cretin-Derham Hall (17-9-1) took the lead on Charlie Cantwell's goal in the first but No. 17-2A Rosemount (14-12-1) evened the score when Owen Durigan scored 3:03 into the second.

Leo Miller made 24 saves for the Raiders.

Two Rivers 5, Simley 2

MAPLEWOOD - Eddie Auran scored the go-ahead goal as No. 3 seed Two Rivers defeated No. 6 seed Simley 5-2 in a Section 4A quarterfinal at Aldrich Arena.

Simley (9-15-2) defeated Two Rivers (17-8-1) 3-2 on Feb. 11.

Hutchinson 5, Breck 1

HUTCHINSON - Hunter Lien made 33 saves as No. 8 seed Hutchinson defeated No. 9 seed Breck 5-1 in a Section 2A first-round game at Burich Arena.

Hutchinson (12-14-0) used a power-play goal by Manny Pearce to grab the lead. The Tigers then erupted for three goals in the second as Nathan Thode, Emmett Reiter and AJ Mallak scored.

Luke Kern scored a power-play goal for Breck (7-18-1) early in the third period.

Dodge County 4, La Crescent-Hokah 3 (OT)

KASSON - Gryffon Funke scored 58 seconds into overtime to give No. 4 seed Dodge County a 4-3 win over No. 5 seed La Crescent-Hokah in a Section 1A quarterfinal at Dodge County Ice Arena.

La Crescent-Hokah's Ethan Myhre found the top corner for his 10th goal of the season with 1:24 left in regulation, tying the score at 3-3.

Dodge County (16-9-0) took a 2-0 lead on goals by Dylan Clomps and Funke.

La Crescent-Hokah (18-8-0) tied the score with goals by Mitchell Reining and Cody Hagen in the second.

The Lancers fell short of matching the school record of 19 wins in a season.

Albert Lea 4, Winona 1

ALBERT LEA - Dakota Jahnke made 16 saves and No. 3 seed Albert Lea scored the first two goals last two goals to defeat No. 6 seed Winona 4-1 in a Section 1A quarterfinal at Albert Lea City Arena.

Joseph Yoon and Jack Ladlie each recorded a goal and an assist for Albert Lea (19-6-1). Max Edwin scored in the first for the Tigers. Ladlie pushed the lead to 2-0 23 seconds into the second.

After Teis Larsen scored in the second period for Winona (10-14-2), Yoon and Derrek Laite answered with goals in the third for Albert Lea.
