FAIRMONT - Nate Rakness scored back-to-back power-play goals in the third period as Fairmont rallied to beat Worthington 7-5 in a Section 3A first-round game on Monday at Martin County Arena.
Worthington sophomore Spenser Nickel scored his third goal of the game 3:03 into the third period to put the No. 9-seed Trojans (3-20-0) ahead 5-4.
Rakness, a junior who leads Fairmont with 20 goals, tied it at 5-5 early in the third and scored the winner with 5:48 remaining.
Luke Kester added an empty-net goal for the Cardinals (8-18-0) with 34 seconds left.
Fairmont led 3-1 after the opening period. Worthington scored the first three goals of the second period to take a 4-3 lead.
Nickel's three goals give him 15 to finish the season, second- most on the team.

WINDOM - Brady Espenson's five-point night (3 goals, 2 assists) powered Windom to a 6-0 victory over Redwood Valley in a Section 3A first-round game at Windom Ice Arena.
Espenson, a senior, scored the first three goals to put No. 7 seed Windom (11-14-0) ahead 3-0 early in the second period. He assisted on two of the next three goals as the Eagles continued to pull away from the No. 10 seed Cardinals (0-22-0).
Windom outshot Redwood Valley 61-10.
Both of Monday's Section 3A games were originally scheduled for Tuesday. They were rescheduled for Monday because of forecasts for a winter snowstorm expected to blanket the state Tuesday through Thursday.
