Hockey Night: White Bear Lake narrowly averts major upset

Feb. 17: Nolan Roed's OT goal boosts Bears past Blaine; Lakeville South tops Prior Lake

White Bear Lake 1, Blaine 0 (OT)

BLAINE - Senior forward Nolan Roed scored with 4:22 left in overtime to give White Bear Lake a 1-0 win over Blaine at Fogerty Arena on Monday in one of 11 games played around the state.

Leo Gabriel recorded 15 saves for his fifth shutout this season as No. 12-2A White Bear Lake (19-5-0) averted what would have been one of the biggest upsets of the season.

The goal was the 23rd of the season for Roed, a St. Cloud State commit who leads the Bears in goals and points (46).

Senior Caden Bunes stopped 56 shots for Blaine (3-22-0).

Lakeville South 3, Prior Lake 1

LAKEVILLE - Lakeville South scored three unanswered goals to rebound from an early deficit and beat Prior Lake 3-1 at Hasse Arena.

No. 11-2A Lakeville South (18-6-1) finished the regular season by winning seven of eight games.

Brayden Pelcl opened the scoring 35 seconds into the game for Prior Lake (11-13-1). Lakeville South's Will Kortan tied it at 1-1 with 1:50 left in the first.

Eiji Hoffman put Lakeville South ahead 2-1 with 10:29 remaining. Aidan Willis added an empty-net goal with eight seconds left.

Mankato East 5, Hutchinson 2

MANKATO - Mankato East scored twice in the second and third periods in a 5-2 win over Hutchinson at All Seasons Arena.

Mankato East (9-15-0) took the lead with Caden Hansen's goal with 1:59 remaining in the first.

Hutchinson (10-14-0) tied it on Manny Pearce's power-play goal but the Cougars retook the lead on a goal by Alexander Morgan. Mankato East pushed the lead to 3-1 when Brayden Borgmeier scored with 7:52 remaining in the second.

Christian Theuninck gave Mankato East a 4-2 lead with 12:16 remaining and Andrew Bastian added an insurance goal with 5:49 left.

Alexandria 4, St. Cloud 2

ALEXANDRIA - Gavin Olson and Nick Peterson each had a goal and an assist and Tyler Kludt had three assists as Alexandria beat St. Cloud 4-2 at Runestone Community Center.

Peterson, Olson and Evan Anderson scored in the first period as No. 18-1A Alexandria (10-12-1) led 3-0 entering the second. 

The Cardinals, who started the season 0-7-0, have won nine of their last 11 games.

Ryan Behl and Joe Hess scored for St. Cloud (9-12-2).

Holy Angels 3, Cambridge-Isanti 1

RICHFIELD - Gabe Perron had a goal and an assist and Luke Marsalek made 23 saves as Holy Angels beat Cambridge-Isanti 3-1 at Richfield Ice Arena.

Perron, a freshman defenseman, put Holy Angels (17-6-1) ahead 2-1 with a power-play goal midway through the second period He assisted on Jack McDonough's goal with 10 seconds left in the second to put the Stars ahead 3-1.

Seth Terhell scored the lone goal for Cambridge-Isanti (16-8-0).
