Hockey Night: White Bear Lake wins thriller over Cretin-Derham Hall

Feb. 14: Bears get OT goal from Aiden Welch; Chanhassen routs BSM; Stillwater surprises Rogers

White Bear Lake 4, Cretin-Derham Hall 3 (OT)

ST. PAUL - Aiden Welch's goal with 2:43 left in overtime gave White Bear Lake a 4-3 win over Cretin-Derham Hall at Highland Arena.

Welch's centering pass from behind the net bounced off at least one player before skidding into the net. The senior forward, who has 21 goals this season, recorded his second hat trick in five games.

No. 12-2A White Bear Lake (17-5-0) led 3-1 after the first period following two goals by Welch and one by Michael Delaney.

No. 13-2A Cretin-Derham Hall (15-9-1), which trailed 3-1 after the opening period, started its comeback with a goal by Jake Fisher in the second. He later tied it at 3-3 with 4:17 remaining in the third.

Leo Gabriel made 35 saves for White Bear Lake while Leo Miller stopped 32 shots for the Raiders.

Chanhassen 6, Benilde-St. Margaret's 0

VICTORIA - Jack Christ and Gavin Uhlenkamp each scored a goal and had two assists and Kam Hendrickson made 19 saves as Chanhassen shut out Benilde-St. Margaret's in a meeting of top-10 ranked Class 2A teams and Metro West Conference leaders at the Victoria Recreation Center.

The shutout was the seventh this season for Hendrickson, a junior, as No. 3-2A Chanhassen (21-3-0) won for the fifth time in six games as it clinched at least a share of the Metro West championship.

Hendrickson's 1.22 goals-against average ranks third in the state and his .935 save percentage is seventh.

No. 9-2A Benilde-St. Margaret's (16-8-0) closes the regular season Friday at New Prague. A victory for the Red Knights would give both Benilde-St. Margaret's and Chanhassen a share of the conference title.

Stillwater 2, Rogers 0

ROGERS - Tomas Anderson made 21 saves as Stillwater upended Rogers 2-0 in a matchup of top-20 Class 2A teams at Rogers Ice Arena.

No. 19-2A Stillwater (14-7-3) took the lead on Riley Souza's goal in the second period. Ty Tuccitto added an empty-net goal with 1:56 left in the third.

Cade Chapman made 17 saves for No. 10-2A Rogers (15-6-3), which has lost three of its last four.

Hermantown 4, Grand Rapids 1

HERMANTOWN - Kade Kohanski scored twice in the second period and Dane Callaway made 24 saves as Hermantown beat Grand Rapids 4-1 at Hermantown Ice Arena.

Kohanski has scored six goals in his last four games for No. 2-1A Hermantown (22-2-1), which has won 10-straight.

Lucas Dulong scored in the second period for Grand Rapids (12-12-1).

Hermantown finishes as the top team in the Lake Superior Conference for the 12th time in the last 13 years.

Rock Ridge 4, Hibbing/Chisholm 3

VIRGINIA - Brant Tiedeman scored twice in the second period as Rock Ridge held on for a 4-3 win over Hibbing/Chisholm in a matchup of top-20 Class 1A teams at Iron Rail Motors Event Center.

No. 11-1A Rock Ridge (15-8-1) led 4-1 after Tiedeman's second goal. The Wolverines, who have won three-straight games, got goals from Kasey Lamppa and Grady Dimberio in the first.

No. 9-1A Hibbing/Chisholm (15-8-1) got a power-play goal from Beau Frider to start its rally in the third. Jack Gabardi made it 4-3 with 5:05 remaining but that was the last goal for the Bluejackets.

Sam Troutwine added two assists for Rock Ridge.

Gentry Academy 5, Providence Academy 4 (OT)

PLYMOUTH - Tyler Betzold scored with 3:08 remaining in overtime to give Gentry Academy a 5-4 win over No. 14-1A Providence Academy at the Plymouth Ice Center.

Providence Academy (14-10-0) tied it at 4-4 29 seconds into the third period when Jonah Mogeni scored.

The teams traded goals in the first as Providence Academy's Brandon Sattler and Louie Wehmann scored as did Gentry's Dakotah Bailey and Max von Klinggraeff.

Gentry Academy (16-8-0) led 4-3 after the second after goals by Bailey and Reese Shaw. Gentry Academy outshot Providence Academy 37-17.

Lakeville South 6, Rosemount 4

LAKEVILLE - Tate Pritchard scored three times in the second period as Lakeville South rallied for a 6-4 win over Rosemount in a matchup of South Suburban Conference teams on win streaks at Hasse Arena.

Lakeville South (16-6-1), which won its sixth-straight game and 11th in 12 outings, trailed 2-0 after the first period before Pritchard scored three times and Jackson Ernst once in the second for a 4-2 lead.

Rosemount (13-9-1), which had its nine-game unbeaten streak snapped, cut the lead to 4-3 on Jackson Ganser's goal early in the third.

Aidan Willis scored shorthanded for the Cougars before Luca Salak answered with a power-play goal for Rosemount.

Caden Hegarty and Jake Toll scored in the first for the Irish.

Jack Ohlund completed the scoring with an empty-net goal for Lakeville South. Willis had four assists to go with his shorthanded goal.
