Hockey Night: Minnetonka evens season series with Wayzata

Feb. 2: Skippers extend win streak to nine games; Kittson Central's Tyler Hennen nears 300 career points; La Crescent's Wyatt Farrell adds to school-record career goal total

Minnetonka 4, Wayzata 2

PLYMOUTH - Minnetonka scored four goals in the second period en route to a 4-2 win over Wayzata on Thursday in a Lake Conference matchup of top-10 Class 2A teams at the Plymouth Ice Center.

Alex Lunski put No. 1-2A Minnetonka (18-2-0) ahead 3-1 with 4:23 to go in the first and, after a Luke Miller goal for No. 7-2A Wayzata (13-5-2), Ashton Schultz gave the Skippers a 4-2 lead with 47 seconds left in the period.

Wayzata took a 1-0 lead on Britain Alstead's goal in the first.

Minnetonka defenseman John Stout scored a power play goal 3:41 into the second to tie it at 1-1. The Skippers then took a 2-1 lead on a goal by Hagen Burrows with 6:06 left in the period.

Will Ingemann made 33 saves for Wayzata while Kaizer Nelson stopped 18 shots for the Skippers.

Wayzata defeated Minnetonka 3-1 on Jan. 7 at Minnetonka.

Minnetonka extended its win streak to nine games. The Trojans are winless in their last five outings.

Proctor 1, Superior (Wis.) 0

PROCTOR - Senior Blake Imhoff made 38 saves and Carson Pavlowich scored the lone goal early in the third period as Proctor beat Superior 1-0 at the St. Luke's Sports and Event Center.

Imhoff became the state's sixth goaltender this season to record 35 or more saves in a shutout. His .933 save percentage ranks seventh in the state.

Pavlowich, a junior defenseman, scored his seventh goal of the season 2:16 into the final period.

The victory was the third straight and sixth in eight games for the Rails (10-10-0).

Trent Peterson made 35 saves for Superior (10-10-0)

Kittson Central 7, Breckenridge/Wahpeton 3

WAHPETON, N.D. - Tyler Hennen scored four goals and added an assist to draw closer to 300 career points as Kittson Central defeated Breckenridge/Wahpeton 7-3 at Stern Sports Arena.

Hennen, a senior forward, has 57 goals and 41 assists this season. The five points give him 297 for his career. He has recorded 21 points in his past three games.

Kittson Central (11-8-1) opened a 5-0 lead after the game's first 20 minutes following two goals each by Hennen and Hayden Olsonawski and another from Morgan Muir. 

Hennen, the state's leader in goals and points, picked up two goals in the third period. Olsonawski, also a senior forward, has 33 goals and 65 points to also rank among the state's leaders in those categories.

After scoring a goal in the second, Breckenridge/Wahpeton (1-18-0) added two more in the third.

La Crescent 7, Black River Falls (Wis.) 3

BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. - La Crescent's Wyatt Farrell, the school's all-time career record holder for goals, scored a second-period goal and added an assist as the Lancers beat Black River Falls 7-3 at Milt Lunda Memorial Arena.

Farrell, a junior, has 137 career goals, three more than the 134 scored by Lancers' head coach and former NHLer Eriah Hayes in 2003-07.

La Crescent (16-4-0) pulled away to a 5-3 lead after scoring four goals in the second.

Cooper Carlson added two insurance goals in the third to complete the scoring for the Lancers.

Calvin Lakowske had a goal and two assists for Black River Falls (12-6-0).

Rochester Mayo 5, Lakeville North 3

ROCHESTER - Rochester Mayo rallied from a three-goal deficit to beat Lakeville North 5-3 at Graham Arena for the Spartans' first victory over the Panthers since Jan. 17, 2009.

Matthew Siems and Jacob Brown scored third-period goals to propel Mayo (14-4-2) to the victory. Ryan Drips added a pair of second-period goals.

Tyler Arneson and Wyatt Albrecht scored in the first period as Lakeville North (8-12-0) took a 2-0 lead. Drew Thompson's goal early in the second put the Panthers ahead 3-0.

Rochester John Marshall 6, Northfield 4

NORTHFIELD - Damon Miller's power-play goal with 7:46 remaining helped boost Rochester John Marshall to a 6-4 upset victory over Northfield in a Big 9 Conference matchup at Northfield Ice Arena.

No. 6-1A Northfield (15-5-0) led 4-3 on Brayden Olsen's goal, his third of the game, 4:42 into the final period.

Mason Decker tied it for Rochester John Marshall (10-9-1) midway through the final period. Miller continued the run of three unanswered goals for the Rockets, who got an empty net goal from Ole Fevold with 1:00 remaining.

Cody Vlasaty made 44 saves for the Rockets, who were outshot 48-17.

Lakeville South 5, Cretin-Derham Hall 4 (OT)

ST. PAUL - Aidan Willis scored 49 seconds into overtime to give Lakeville South a 5-4 win over Cretin-Derham Hall in a matchup of top-20 Class 2A teams at Highland Arena.

Willis and Tate Pritchard each had two goals and an assist to lead No. 12-2A Lakeville South (13-5-1).

Jake Fisher scored a goal and added an assist for No. 10-2A Cretin-Derham Hall (14-7-1).

The teams traded goals in the first, with Pritchard scoring for the Cougars and Fisher scoring for Cretin-Derham Hall.

The goal trading continued in the second as the Raiders opened the scoring and added another goal, but Lakeville South countered each time.

Willis scored shorthanded to give the Cougars a 4-3 lead with 11:23 left in regulation but Colin Scanlan tied the game with 6:33 to play.

Jack Hochsprung made 33 saves for South while Cretin-Derham Hall's Owen Nelson finished with 19 stops.

Roseau 6, Bemidji 2

BEMIDJI - Tanner George scored twice and added two assists as Roseau defeated Bemidji 6-2 at Bemidji Community Arena.

George scored a shorthanded goal with 2:31 left in the second to put Roseau (12-7-1) ahead 5-2 and added a goal with 1:45 left in the third to complete the scoring. 

Roseau led 2-1 after the first period as goals by Jake Halvorson and Gavin Jensen sandwiched one by Bemidji's Wyatt Mattfield.

Mattfield scored again in the second period to bring Bemidji (10-10-0) to within one at 3-2.

Roseau's Noah Urness had a goal and three assists while teammate Preston Lundbohm added a goal and two assists. The Rams' Atreyu Jones made 29 saves.

Holy Family 10, Delano 4

DELANO - Three players had two goals for Holy Family as it rolled past Delano 10-4 at Delano Area Sports Arena in a matchup of Wright County Conference leaders.

Parker Osborn, Bryce Wiitala and Holden Pajor each scored two goals and added an assist for Holy Family (15-5-0), which led 3-1 after the first and 7-3 after two periods.

Teague Collings led No. 8-1A Delano (11-9-0) with a goal and an assist.
