Hockey Night: South St. Paul upsets Highland Park

Feb. 1: Packers win for the first time since December; Eastview shuts out Gentry Academy

South St. Paul 3, St. Paul Highland Park 1

ST. PAUL - South St. Paul scored all of its goals on power plays as it upended St. Paul Highland Park 3-1 on Wednesday at Highland Arena to snap a nine-game losing skid. The game was one of five games played around the state.

Joe Schaefer and Jacob Bann scored power-play goals for South St. Paul (3-16-1) in the first period and Tim Krech added another with the man advantage 4:59 in to the third to put the Packers ahead 3-0 in the matchup of Section 4A squads.

Isaac Johnson scored the lone goal for St. Paul Highland Park (9-10-2) with 3:21 remaining.

Wyatt Cheney made 25 saves for the Packers, who hadn't won since beating Hopkins 5-3 on Dec. 30 in a consolation semifinal of South St. Paul's holiday tournament.

Eastview 2, Gentry Academy 0

APPLE VALLEY - Jay Svaren stopped 26 shots for the shutout and Logan Opgrand's goal with 30 seconds remaining in the opening period held up as the winner as Eastview beat Gentry Academy 2-0 at the Apple Valley Sports Arena.

John Kisch added an empty net goal for No. 16-2A Eastview (13-7-0) with 16 seconds remaining.

Anthony Zolezzi made 21 saves for Gentry Academy (12-7-0).

Holy Angels 7, Robbinsdale Armstrong/Cooper 1

RICHFIELD - Henry Lechner scored three goals and Luke Marsalek stopped 31 shots to lead Holy Angels past Robbinsdale Armstrong/Cooper 7-1 at the Richfield Ice Arena.

Lechner scored twice in the second period as Holy Angels (13-5-1) scored three unanswered goals to take a 5-1 lead. The sophomore leads the Stars with 51 points, including a team-best 24 goals.

Stars freshman Cole Cheeseman scored twice in the third period, his 15th and 16th goals of the season.

Dawson Franke scored the lone goal for Robbinsdale Armstrong/Cooper (8-11-0).

Duluth East 4, Superior (Wis.) 0

DULUTH - Cole Christian scored twice and added an assist as Duluth East beat Superior (Wis.) 4-0 at the Heritage Sports Center to extend its win streak to six games.

Christian, who has nine goals in his last three games, leads the Greyhounds (14-6-1) with 48 points.

Drew Raukar made 13 saves to earn the shutout. Trent Peterson made 59 saves for Superior (10-9-0).
