ST. LOUIS PARK - Ben Norris scored twice and Mason McElroy made 22 saves as Benilde-St. Margaret’s beat Chanhassen 4-1 on Thursday at the St. Louis Park Rec Center, halting the Storm’s 16-game win streak.
The victory was the ninth in 10 outings for No. 9-2A Benilde-St. Margaret’s (13-5-0), which led 3-0 after the first period.
Michael Risteau, Drew Stewart and Norris scored in the first for the Red Knights, with all of the goals coming on slick passing plays or electrifying rushes.
Chanhassen junior goaltender Kam Hendrickson, who entered the night as the state’s leader in save percentage, was replaced by Brady Marsh to start the second period. The No. 3-2A Storm (16-2-0) had multiple chances to get back into the game in the second but failed to capitalize on a 5-on-3 power play and a penalty shot awarded to Tyler Smith.
Norris’ second goal put the Red Knights ahead 4-0 in the third. Chanhassen's Gavin Uhlenkamp ruined Mason McElroy’s shutout bid by scoring with 3:55 remaining.
