Hockey Night: Up-and-down Eastview upends Cretin-Derham Hall

Jan. 26: Lightning's upset win shakes up Section 3AA; Champlin Park tops Centennial in OT

Eastview 4, Cretin-Derham Hall 2

ST. PAUL - Billy Downs' goal 2:52 into the third period held up as the winner as Eastview defeated Cretin-Derham Hall 4-2 in on Thursday at Charles M. Schulz-Highland Arena in a matchup likely to impact Section 3AA seeding.

The loss snapped the Raiders' seven-game unbeaten streak. Eastview was 3-4 in its previous seven games. 

No. 16-2A Eastview (11-6-0) 2-1 led early in the second period on a goal by Charlie Ortman. Colin Scanlan tied the game for No. 7-2A Cretin-Derham Hall (13-5-1) with his goal with 1:47 left in the second.

Downs gave the Lightning a 3-2 lead when he pounced on loose puck in the slot and fired a quick shot under the crossbar. Zach Wooten scored an empty-net goal with four seconds left in regulation.

Lucas Cernohous scored a power-play goal for the Raiders in the first period. Tanner Kronberg answered for Eastview.

Champlin Park 3, Centennial 2 (OT)

CHAMPLIN - Drew Pajunen's overtime goal capped Champlin Park's comeback as the Rebels defeated Centennial 3-2 in a showdown between Northwest Suburban Conference and Section 5AA foes at the Champlin Ice Forum.

Will Burnevik's power-play goal with 5:16 left in regulation forced overtime and set the stage for Pajunen's game-winner.

No. 13-2A Centennial (9-6-1) led 2-0 on Drake Ramirez's goal 57 seconds into the second period.

Jax Warren started the comeback for No. 14-2A Champlin Park (13-5-0) by scoring with 2:45 left in the second.

Centennial beat Champlin Park 6-3 in the team's first meeting on Jan. 9.

Edina 5, Wayzata 3

EDINA - Edina's Jackson Nevers had two goals as the Hornets defeated Wayzata 5-3 in a matchup of top-five Class 2A teams and Section 6AA rivals at Braemar Arena.

Nevers scored twice in the first period for No. 5-2A Edina (12-4-1). The Hornets also scored twice in the second on goals from Bobby Cowan and Mason West.

No. 2-2A Wayzata (13-3-2) rallied, scoring twice in the second and then getting a power-play goal by Jibber Kohl with 13:38 remaining to cut the deficit to 4-3.

Defenseman Caden Morgan ended Wayzata's comeback attempt with an empty-net goal with three seconds to play.

Hawke Huff had three assists for Wayzata.

Robbie Clarkowski stopped 28 shots for Edina while Will Ingemann made 27 saves for Wayzata.

New Ulm 3, Luverne 1

LUVERNE - New Ulm scored two goals 49 seconds apart in the second period and defeated Luverne 3-1 at Blue Mound Ice Arena.

No. 19-1A New Ulm (16-2-1) trailed early but tied the game with Blake Soukup's goal at 1:40 in the first. The Eagles, who have won nine of their last 10 games, took the lead when Nick Zins scored 1:24 into the second. Taylor Hansen's goal 49 seconds later pushed the lead to 3-1.

Zins was credited with two assists. Bryer Hoffman made 29 saves for New Ulm.

Owen Sudenga gave Luverne (10-6-1) a 1-0 lead 1:44 into the first.

Rock Ridge 6, Duluth Denfeld 1

VIRGINIA - Rock Ridge raced to a three-goal lead in the second period and didn't let up as it beat Duluth Denfeld 6-1 in a matchup of top-12 ranked Class 1A teams and Section 7A foes at the Iron Trail Motors Event Center.

No. 12-1A Rock Ridge (12-5-1) got goals from Dylan Hedley and Grady Dimberio 4:02 into the second for a 3-0 lead. Zac Norberg opened the scoring in the first for the Wolverines.

Andrew Larson scored for No. 11-1A Duluth Denfeld (10-9-1) with 4:26 left in the second to pull the Hunters to within 3-1.

Brant Tiedeman dashed the Hunters' comeback hopes with the first of three third-period Rock Ridge goals. Sam Troutwine and Ryan Manninen completed the scoring.

Hedley and Isaac Flatley each had three assists for the Wolverines, who lost 5-2 to Denfeld in the teams' first meeting on Dec. 13.

Hedley, a senior forward, leads Rock Ridge with 29 points.

Holy Family 3, Delano 2

VICTORIA - Parker Osborn scored with 3:10 remaining to give Holy Family a 3-2 Wright County Conference win over Delano at the Victoria Recreation Center.

Holy Family (12-5-0) led 2-0 on a Bryce Wiitala goal 1:23 into the third.

Will Brown scored an even strength and on a power-play in the third to tie the score at 2-2 for No. 8-1A Delano (10-8-0).
