Hockey Night: Detroit Lakes tops Northern Lakes in OT

Jan. 23: Cole Larson scores 49 seconds into extra session for Lakers; New Ulm slips past Windom; Lakeville South routs Shakopee

Detroit Lakes 3, Northern Lakes 2 (OT)

DETROIT LAKES - Cole Larson scored 49 seconds into overtime to lift Detroit Lakes past Northern Lakes 3-2 at Freeman Sports Arena in one of six games played statewide on Monday.

Larson's shot glanced off a Northern Lakes defender's stick and slowly slid through traffic into the right side of the net, giving him his team-leading 14th goal of the season.

No. 9-1A Detroit Lakes (12-4-1) led 1-0 after the first period and 2-1 heading into the third as Easton Kennedy scored both goals for the Lakers.

Easton Anderson tied it at 2-2 for Northern Lakes (5-9-0) with 5:39 remaining.

Detroit Lakes outshot Northern Lakes 47-15.

New Ulm 4, Windom 3

NEW ULM - Ian Brudelie's goal with 5 minutes remaining lifted New Ulm to a 4-3 triumph over Windom in a Big South Conference matchup at the New Ulm Civic Center.

No. 19-1A New Ulm (14-2-1) led 2-0 late in the second period when Windom (7-9-0) rallied on goals from Brady Espenson and Sonny Heil.

Austin Uecker put New Ulm back in front at 3-2 32 seconds into the third period. Heil tied it three minutes later. The goal was Heil's second of the game and 15th of the season.

The victory was New Ulm's seventh in eight games.

Lakeville South 8, Shakopee 2

LAKEVILLE - Senior forward Ashton Dahms scored three unanswered goals in the first period to lead Lakeville South past Shakopee 8-2 at Hasse Arena.

Dahms scored his first goal 5:58 into the first period to put No. 11-2A Lakeville South (10-4-1) ahead 3-0. He scored twice in the final 5:23 of the first to make it 5-0. The hat trick gives Dahms a team-leading 15 goals.

Tate Pritchard scored Lakeville South's first two goals and added three assists.

Cooper Simpson scored both goals for No. 18-2A Shakopee (11-5-0).

Hastings 3, Farmington 2

FARMINGTON - Hastings grabbed a big early lead and then held on to beat rallying Farmington 3-2 at Schmitz-Maki Arena.

Blake Vandehoef and Sawyer Zaruba scored in the first period and Brody Carlson scored in the second as Hastings (11-4-1) built a 3-0 lead heading into the third.

Everett Bennett and Kyler Schwamb scored third-period goals for Farmington (3-13-0).

Hibbing/Chisholm 4, Duluth Marshall 0

HIBBING - Brayden Boyer made 33 saves and Beau Frider had a goal and an assist as Hibbing/Chisholm beat Duluth Marshall 4-0 at the Hibbing Memorial Building.

Hibbing/Chisholm (12-5-1) led 1-0 after the first on a Jace Kampsula goal. Frider and Jack Gabardi scored in the second for the Bluejackets, and Andrew Lehman added an insurance goal in the third.

Boyer, a senior, made 21 of his saves in the third period. The shutout was his third of the season.

Heikki Forder made 44 saves for Duluth Marshall (5-12-0).

Monticello 9, Mound Westonka 1

MOUND - Landen Scherber and Robbie Harris each scored twice as Monticello cruised to a 9-1 victory over Mound Westonka at Thaler Sports Center.

The Moose (10-6-1) led 3-0 after the first period and scored six unanswered goals in the second, including four in a span of 3:48. 

August Novack scored the lone Mound Westonka (4-13-0) goal in the third.
