Hockey Night: Waseca, Warroad stars reach milestones

Jan. 21: Kyle Ahlschlager sets Waseca career mark for goals; Warriors' Jayson Shaugabay reaches 100-goal mark for his career

Waseca 7, Red Wing 0

RED WING - Kyle Ahlschlager scored six goals to give him 98 for his career and the all-time Waseca record as the BlueJays beat Red Wing 7-0 on Saturday night at Prairie Island Arena.

Ahlschlager, a senior forward, scored twice in the first period and added four more goals in the third. Lucas Groll interrupted the scoring spree by sandwiching a goal between Ahlschlager's fifth and sixth early in the third period.

Ahlschlager is the only player in the state to score six or more goals in a single game this season. He also had five in a 6-3 victory over Redwood Valley on Nov. 26. Ahlschlager ranks fourth in the state with 32 goals. He has 175 points in his four-year career.

Sophomore goaltender Carter Mertens also had a big night for the Bluejays (8-9-0), stopping 34 shots to earn the shutout. Ellis Petersmeyer made 40 saves for Red Wing (1-13-3).

Warroad 8, Duluth Denfeld 1

DULUTH - Carson Pilgrim scored four goals and Jayson Shaugabay had six points to lead Warroad past Duluth Denfeld 8-1 at the Heritage Sports Center.

Pilgrim, a junior forward, scored once in each of the first two periods and added two more goals in the third as No. 1-1A Warroad, the state's lone unbeaten team, improved to 16-0-0.

Shaugabay's goal was the 100th of his career. The senior forward added five assists to increase his season points total to 54. He has 262 career points, good for a tie for 13th on the state's all-time scoring list with T.J. Roo of Totino-Grace (2009-13). 

Pilgrim's four goals give him 33 this season, third most in the state.

Arttu Molberg scored the lone goal for No. 11-1A Duluth Denfeld (10-8-1).

Minnetonka 3, Eden Prairie 2

EDEN PRAIRIE - Gavin Garry's power-play goal with 38.6 seconds left in regulation propelled Minnetonka past Eden Prairie 3-2 on Saturday at the Eden Prairie Community Center.

Garry, stationed in the slot, grabbed a loose puck and fired a low shot to the left of Eden Prairie goaltender Isaiah Paulnock. The goal was the junior forward's his 12th of the season.

No. 2-2A Minnetonka (14-3-0) led 2-0 through two periods on goals by Hagen Burrows and Max Krebsbach.

Eden Prairie (8-8-1) rallied with goals by Ryan Koering and Mason Moe in the opening 2:39 of the third.

Wayzata 2, Roseau 2 (OT)

ROSEAU - Jake Mattson's goal with 17 seconds remaining allowed Wayzata to force overtime against Roseau at Roseau Memorial Arena in a 2-2 tie.

Wayzata was unable to convert a power-play opportunity in overtime.

Noah Urness gave Roseau (10-6-1) a 1-0 lead by scoring with 61 seconds left in the first. Wayzata outshot Roseau 13-6 in the opening period.

Jibber Kuhl tied the game for No. 1-2A Wayzata (13-2-2) midway in the second but the Rams' Jake Halvorson scored 24 seconds into the third period to put Roseau in front 2-1.

Atreyu Jones stopped 39 shots for the Rams while Will Ingemann made 26 saves for Wayzata.

Mahtomedi 4, East Ridge 3 (OT)

NORTH ST. PAUL - Can Bruner's goal with 4:07 remaining in overtime gave Mahtomedi a 4-3 win over East Ridge at Polar Ice Arena in the first ever between the programs.

Charlie Drage tied the score with 55 seconds left, setting the stage for Bruner's game winner.

East Ridge (11-4-0) took a 2-1 lead with Jack Tauscher's power-play goal 38 seconds into the third. Seth Nelson answered for No. 3-1A Mahtomedi, but Tauscher scored again on the power play with 8:51 left in regulation.

Bruner, a senior defenseman, had three assists while Knutsen and Grant Kohnen each had two assists for East Ridge.

The teams were tied after the first on goals by East Ridge's Brady Knutsen and the Zephyrs' Corey Bohmert.

Luverne 9, Dodge County 1

KASSON - Luverne head coach Phillip Paquette won his 100th career game as the Cardinals defeated Dodge County 9-1 at Dodge County Ice Arena.

Paquette has guided Luverne to a 100-67-2 record in seven seasons, including a 9-5-1 mark this season.

Patrick Koski scored four goals and Brock Behrend added two for the Cardinals, who trailed 1-0 before closing the game with nine-straight goals. Elliott Domagala and Maddux Domagala each added a goal and two assists.

Dylan Klomps gave Dodge County (10-7-0) a 1-0 lead 4:54 into the contest before Kroski tied it with 3:24 left in the first.

Tyler Arends made 22 saves for Luverne.

Rogers 9, Centennial 5

CIRCLE PINES - Sam Ranallo recorded seven points as Rogers handed Centennial a 9-5 loss at Centennial Sports Arena.

Ranallo, a senior forward, was one of three Royals to score two goals as Mason Jensen and Parker Deschene each scored twice. Ranallo had five assists while Deschene and Jenson had three and two, respectively.

Chase Cheslock added a goal and three assists for No. 6-2A Rogers (11-2-3) which led 5-0 after the first.

Peyton Blair scored three goals in the second period for No. 13-2A Centennial (9-5-1).

East Grand Forks 4, Bemidji 2

BEMIDJI - Brock Schultz's goal with 1:28 left in the first period stood as the game-winner as East Grand Forks survived a Bemidji rally to defeat the Lumberjacks 4-2 at Bemidji Community Arena.

The Green Wave snapped Bemidji's seven-game win streak.

No. 5-1A East Grand Forks (11-6-0) led 3-0 in the first period after goals by Schultz, Grady Magner and Chase Moe.

Bemidji (10-7-0) started its comeback with Nick Yavarow's power-play goal 1:55 into the third. Gunnar Nelson brought the Lumberjacks within one at 3-2 with 13:08 to play but that was the last puck to get past East Grand Forks' Chase Mero, who stopped 25 shots.

Jace Van Eps completed the scoring with an empty-net goal for the Green Wave with 37 seconds left.

Holy Angels 5, Duluth Marshall 4 (OT)

DULUTH - Jack Bartfield's goal with 5:03 left in overtime allowed Holy Angels to overcome a Duluth Marshall rally and record a 5-4 win over the Hilltoppers at Mars Lakeview Arena.

Holy Angels (10-4-1) held a 4-1 lead after Bartfield scored on the power play with 6:22 left in the second period. 

Duluth Marshall (5-11-0) started its rally with a goal by Pierce Gouin with three seconds left in the second. Gouin scored with 14:28 left in regulation and then the Hilltoppers' Luke Schottenbauer scored on the power play with one minute remaining to force overtime.

Gouin and Jonas Martinelli each had two assists for Duluth Marshall. Henry Lechner had three assists for Holy Angels, giving him 13 points in his last four games.
