Hockey Night: Schultz saves the day for East Grand Forks

Jan. 17: Brock Schultz scores three goals in Green Wave's win over Roseau; Hill-Murray and Stillwater skate to tie

East Grand Forks 6, Roseau 5 (OT)

ROSEAU - East Grand Forks' Brock Schultz forced overtime and then won the game in the extra session as the Green Wave defeated Roseau 6-5 on Tuesday at Roseau Memorial Arena.

Schultz, a junior forward, finished the night with three goals and an assist. He leads the Green Wave with 10 goals and 19 points.

Schultz's third-period goal came with 1:19 left for No. 5-1A East Grand Forks (9-6-0). His game-winning goal came 2:04 into overtime. His first-period goal evened the score 2-2.

Roseau (10-6-0) and the Green Wave were tied 2-2 and 4-4 before Schultz forced the extra session.

Roseau's Noah Urness had three assists while teammate Jake Halvorson had a goal and two assists.

Landon Jameison and Cole Bees each had a goal and an assist for East Grand Forks.

Chase Mero made 30 saves for East Grand Forks.

Hill-Murray 2, Stillwater 2 (OT)

STILLWATER - Hill-Murray's Jude Bonin scored 77 seconds into the third period to tie the game and nearly 23 minutes later Stillwater and the Pioneers ended in a 2-2 tie at the St. Croix Recreation Center.

No. 14-2A Stillwater (8-4-2) built a 2-0 lead after the first period on goals by Matthew Volkman and Brody Dustin.

Hill-Murray (5-8-1) got on the scoreboard when Boden Sampair scored midway in the second, setting the stage for Bonin's game-tying goal in the third.

Tomas Anderson made 36 saves for Stillwater; Hill-Murray's Jack Erickson had 22 stops.

Park Rapids 3, Wadena-Deer Creek 2 (OT)

PARK RAPIDS - Joshua Hillukka's short-handed goal 2:19 into overtime allowed Park Rapids to defeat Wadena-Deer Creek 3-2 at Ted O. Johnson Ice Arena.

Park Rapids (6-5-0) held a 2-1 lead after Parker Vinge's goal with 5:56 to play in the third.

Wadena-Deer Creek (8-4-0) evened the score with 41 seconds left in regulation when Kaden Peterson scored.

Lance Kaufman made 40 saves for Wadena-Deer Creek.

Lakeville South 3, Prior Lake 2

PRIOR LAKE - Ashton Dahms' second goal of the night proved to be the winner as Lakeville South defeated Prior Lake 3-2 at Dakotah! Ice Center.

Jackson Ernst and Dahms scored in the first period for No. 11-2A Lakeville South (8-4-1).

Prior Lake's Joe Rice scored with 11:45 left in the second but Dahms scored 37 seconds later to give the Cougars a 3-1 lead.

Prior Lake (7-9-0) came within one, at 3-2, when Levi Eiter scored with 7:51 remaining.

Dahms also recorded an assist.

Luverne 4, Albert Lea 2

ALBERT LEA - Luverne got goals from four players as the Cardinals defeated Albert Lea 4-2 at Albert Lea City Arena, snapping the Tigers' nine-game win streak.

Luverne (8-5-1) built a 4-0 lead after two periods on goals by Patrick Kiosk and the Killer B's, Brady Bork, Blaik B1ork and Brock Behrend.

No. 12-1A Albert Lea (11-4-0) rallied in the third period on goals by Tim Chalmers and Joseph Yoon.

Hermantown 6, Hibbing/Chisholm 0

HIBBING - Senior forward Kade Kohanski scored on the first shift in his return from injury and Hermantown limited Hibbing/Chisholm to eight shots as the Hawks shut out the Bluejackets 6-0 at the Hibbing Memorial Building.

Kohanski, who scored 62 points as a junior, had missed the No. 2-1A Hawks' (11-1-1) previous 10 games.

Kohanski scored the lone goal of the first period. Hermantown's Evan Gunderson scored the only goal of the second period as the Hawks held a 2-0 lead despite outshooting No. 7-1A Hibbing/Chisholm (10-5-1) 35-6 through two periods.

Hermantown's Garron Opsahl finished with eight saves to earn his second shutout of the season. Hibbing/Chisholm's Brayden Boyer made 45 stops.

Orono 6, Providence Academy 3

PLYMOUTH - Joey Mugas scored two goals and added two assists as Orono defeated Providence Academy 6-3 at the Plymouth Ice Center.

No. 4-1A Orono (12-2-0), which won for the fourth time in five games, spotted Providence Academy a first-period goal before erupting for five goals in the second.

Louie Wehmann scored twice for No. 14-1A Providence Academy (7-8-0), upping his season points total to 49, sixth-most in the state.
