Hockey Night: Rosemount stuns Lakeville South

Jan. 12: Irish record their second upset victory in less than a week; Chanhassen beats fifth Section 2AA foe; Orono overpowers Delano

Rosemount 4, Lakeville South 3

ROSEMOUNT - Senior forward Caden Hegarty scored two goals, including what proved to be the game-winner early in the third period, as Rosemount upended Lakeville South 4-3 in a South Suburban Conference matchup on Thursday at Rosemount Ice Arena.

Jack Ohlund scored with 3:46 remaining as No. 10-2A Lakeville South (6-4-1) pulled to within 4-3.

Tristan Fischer stopped 20 shots for the Irish (5-9-0), who upset No. 14-2A Eastview 4-0 on Saturday.

Orono 5, Delano 1

LONG LAKE - Sophomore defenseman Miller Williams scored consecutive goals in the second period to lead Orono to a 5-1 win over Delano at Orono Ice Arena.

Williams' two goals broke a 1-1 tie and sparked a four-goal streak for No. 4-1A Orono (11-2-0).

Joey Greenagel scored in the first for Orono. Aaron Lewis tied it for No. 9-1A Delano (7-6-0) just more than a minute later.

Williams first scored 3:13 into the second and added another with 8:11 left. Luca DeCubellis added a power-play goal with 2:40 remaining in the period to give the Spartans a 4-1 lead.

Bradley Walker added an insurance goal in the third. Brock Peyton stopped 31 shots for Orono.

Chanhassen 4, Prior Lake 1

PRIOR LAKE - Chanhassen remained unbeaten against Section 2AA teams with a 4-1 win over Prior Lake at Dakotah! Ice Center.

No. 4-2A Chanhassen (14-1-0) has defeated Chaska, Minnetonka, Shakopee, Bloomington Jefferson and now the Lakers, the reigning section champion, as it aims for the top seed in the playoffs.

Brayden Willis, Tyler Smith, Owen Buesgens and Cade Lee scored for the Storm, who limited Prior Lake to 11 shots on goal.

Will Emerson scored in the second period for Prior Lake (7-7-0).

Two Rivers 3, Simley 0

WEST ST. PAUL - Junior goaltender Brady Altier notched his second shutout in as many games as Two Rivers beat rival Simley 3-0 at West St. Paul Arena.

Altier, coming off a 16-save shutout in a 3-0 win over Rochester John Marshall on Tuesday, made 10 saves in Thursday's win over the Spartans (5-7-1).

No. 20-1A Two Rivers (12-3-1) has four shutouts this season and a team goals-against average of 1.41, third best in the state behind Class 2A powerhouses Chanhassen (1.00) and Minnetonka (1.14).

Sophomore Eddie Auran scored a goal in the first and second periods as Two Rivers built a 2-0 lead. Casey Ball's empty net goal with 29 seconds left clinched the win. Ball leads Two Rivers with 17 goals; Auran is second on the team with 12.

Little Falls 7, Princeton 6 (OT)

PRINCETON - Ryan Oothoudt scored with 3 seconds left in overtime as Little Falls beat Princeton 7-6 at Princeton Ice Arena in a game that included five lead changes.

Timothy Donnay scored with 22 seconds left in the third period as Princeton (6-6-0) tied it 6-6. The Tigers held leads of 2-0 and 5-3, but No. 16-1A Little Falls (6-61) rallied each time to hold leads of its own, at 3-2 and 6-5.

Carter Oothoudt had two goals and an assist to lead Little Falls. Jacob Patnode scored twice and added an assist for Princeton.

St. Thomas Academy 3, Hill-Murray 1

MENDOTA HEIGHTS - Sophomore forward Mikey Mikan scored the go-ahead goal 1:56 into the third period as at St. Thomas Academy recorded its 10th win of the season by defeating Hill-Murray 3-1 at St. Thomas Ice Arena.

Max Candon and Zach Howard also scored for No. 11-2A St. Thomas Academy (10-4-0).

Jackson Reeves gave Hill-Murray (4-8-0) a 1-0 lead 5:19 into the second period. Candon tied the game with 5:33 left in the period.

Mikan's goal put the Cadets ahead 2-1 and Howard recorded an empty-net goal with 25 seconds remaining.

Cody Niesen made 16 saves for St. Thomas Academy while Jack Erickson stopped 33 shots for the Pioneers.

Duluth East 4, Brainerd 1

DULUTH - Brainerd scored the game's first goal but Duluth East answered with the next four as the Greyhounds defeated the Warriors 4-1 at Heritage Sports Center.

Thomas Gunderson scored twice in the third period for Duluth East (8-5-1), which outshot Brainerd 53-20.

Cole Christian scored a goal and added two assists for the Greyhounds, who are unbeaten (5-0-1) since a 5-1 win over Andover Dec. 20.

Brady Johnson scored for Brainerd (5-6-0).

Andover 4, Centennial 1

ANDOVER - Andover scored the final three goals as it defeated Centennial 4-1 at Andover Community Center.

Landon Stringfellow's power-play goal in the second period gave No. 8-2A Andover (9-5-1) a 2-1 lead. Cayden Casey and Gavyn Thoreson scored insurance goals in the final 2:14 of the third period.

After Andover's Cooper Conway opened the scoring 6:13 into the first. Brock Carls scored on the power play 42 seconds later for No. 17-2A Centennial (7-4-1).

Holy Family 3, Eden Prairie 2

EDEN PRAIRIE - Parker Osborn, Drew Roelofs and Holden Pajor each recorded a goal and two assists as Holy Family defeated Eden Prairie 3-2 at Eden Prairie Community Center.

Osborn gave Holy Family (9-5-0) the lead 7:39 into the first period. Pajor and Roelofs assisted on the goal.

Roelofs then made it 2-0 with 14:59 left in the second. It was then Pajor's turn to light the lamp, as he scored with 10:15 remaining.

Tate Bloch and Teddy Townsend scored for No. 18-2A Eden Prairie (5-8-1).
