Quick Recap

Cade De St. Hubert scored with 2:38 left in overtime as Wayzata beat Cretin-Derham Hall 5-4 on Wednesday in the second round of the Premiere Holiday Classic in the Grove to remain the state’s lone unbeaten team in Class 2A.

De St. Hubert, a junior forward, swiped in a rebound from the right side of Cretin-Derham Hall goaltender Leo Miller during a wild goalmouth scramble. The ensuing celebration was even more chaotic, as teammates mobbed De St. Hubert, who transferred from Hopkins with his younger brother Cade, a defenseman, in the offseason.

No. 2-2A Wayzata improved to 8-0-1 with the victory. The Trojans were one of six unbeaten teams entering play on Wednesday, with the others all residing in Class 1A.

No. 8-2A Cretin-Derham Hall (7-4-0) was attempting to play the role of unbeaten slayer for a second straight game. It handed arch rival No. 9-2A St. Thomas Academy its first loss on Dec. 22, a 4-2 Raiders triumph.

Jake Fisher and Chuck Owens scored in the third period as Cretin-Derham Hall took a 4-3 lead with 7:45 remaining. Wayzata tied it on a Hawke Huff power-play goal with 5:31 left.
